Suntan

Kostis is a 40-year-old doctor that finds himself in the small island of Antiparos, in order to take over the local clinic. His whole life and routine will turn upside down when he meets an international group of young and beautiful tourists and he falls in love with Anna, a 19-year-old goddess.
This film really caught me by surprise! "Suntan" is the story of a middle aged, introverted doctor who's given a job as a GP on a tiny holiday isle. One day, he helps a young nudist and gets caught up with her clique...
The viewer feels an affinity for this everyman who wants to fit in and eventually does fit in, until he doesn't anymore. The subtleties and nuances of his personal drama are fatally poignant and very deep. The audience's level of discomfort increases throughout the film in small increments until you realise a permanent state of cringe has taken you over.
Makis Papadimitriou turns in a powerful performance as the lead, and the young nudists are as lovely as they are prominent. Here's a film that's not at all shy about full frontal nudity, even beautiful boys, for a welcome change.
