I read One-shot manga and then watched OVA, manga has character depth and a satisfying ending. Lot of changes this anime, it is polish compared to the manga

It's pretty impressive, considering it was essentially a solo project for Shinkai, but it's not overly remarkable in any aspect otherwise. The attempt to mash genres misses the mark here, and while the visuals are rough around the edges, there is at least a hint of the signature Shinkai elements that would come to define his future works.
