The Karate Kid

12-year-old Dre Parker could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying but the cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make him an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is a kung fu master. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

Not sure why all the hate. The main complaint I have is that it should have been called The Kung Fu Kid.

A nicely filmed movie with solid work by Jackie Chan. Other than that it was totally unnecessary. But shouldn’t kill your childhood. Since no one has the same names as characters in the original. You can still make believe it’s in the same universe. I also didn’t hate Jaden. He was worse in After Earth. Was pretty decent here.
Plus Cobra Kai is for you if you wanted more of the original cast and characters. This really is pretty good as long as you don’t compare it to the original.

This movie's not that bad, it's just a remake of a classic film (like if the original one there was no any mistakes). it counts with one of the best dramatic Jackie Chan performances, and the best Jaden Smith role ever. Recommended if you are not comparing both movies. Honestly, the only bad thing here is the movie's name, and that's it. It's not Karate, it's Kung Fu.

I don't know why jaden got so much hate. Its just a 12 yo kid. The movie has some action and makes jackie shine like old times.

Solid remake, the only thing that's not fitting is the name. Should have been named The Kung Fu Kid – it would still fit in the franchise but without making all these fragile men-children in the comment section cry. :person_facepalming_tone1:

Another remake of a classic that does not meet the standard set by the original. Even though I like Jackie Chan, in this movie he does not nearly manage to math the performance of Pat Morita in the original. It is though still Ok entertainment, but if you have to choose, choose the original.
