This movie was an amazingly beautiful and immersive look into what it's like to be a child in what feels to us adults like a pretty grim situation. I enjoyed it and thought it was a great (unconventional) movie.

Even though I felt like I had been on the cinema for 50 hours after the first half of the movie I really loved it. It’s weird, awkward, formless... it’s exactly like childhood, kids being kids, not seeing the full picture, only bits and pieces. The kids were fantastic as well, cute and natural. I totally loved it!

This movie is amazing. The way it shows us the world from a kid’s perspective is incredible. You see kids just being kids. You see kids being exposed to bigger issues without understanding everything. It also shows the struggle some people have just to survive. Even someplace magical, like outside Disney World. Willem Dafoe is fantastic, one of his best performances.

Having now seen two of his films, I can see why Sean Baker is considered one of the best directors currently working in Hollywood. There are few filmmakers who are as good at authentically portraying complex characters from difficult social milieus without pointing the finger at them. As a result, “The Florida Project” is a captivating exploration of a social environment that is simultaneously lighthearted but also hard to bear.

However, the realistic characterization is not the only quality that distinguishes Baker. His work with the actors should also be emphasized. Not only does he get strong performances out of professionals, but also out of the many completely inexperienced actors, including many children. In particular, I would highlight the performances of Brooklynn Kimberly Prince and Bria Vinaite. But Willem Dafoe is the film's true heart. His character serves as a strong anchor for the viewer.

However, good actors and interesting characters would be of no use if the movie was boring in its presentation. Fortunately, Baker is also a master of his craft in this category. He definitely has a good eye for compelling imagery and obviously also has a knack for editing. However, I would particularly like to highlight the film's color palette, which simply suits the film brilliantly.

With all this praise, it should come as no surprise to anyone that I give “The Florida Project” a very clear recommendation. For my part, I really must catch up on the director's other films soon.
