If you’re expecting some big revelation at the end of this movie, don’t. It’s not so much about the beginning or the end as it is about the journey.

It was beautifully shot and the locations were astounding. The score was some seriously tense and wonderful undercurrent that completely set the mood for me. In-fact, about the score; I loved how it would peak up above the scenes from time to time with a quick cut and instant fade to black. It gave the movie a sort of episodic feel and was great at building suspense.

I enjoyed it even if it didn’t have a big closure at the end.

There's something haunting about the chill of remote northern locations in film. The Grey, The Revenant, and Wind River are high up in my list of preferred movies. Hold the Dark is there with them, if only just.

If you're looking for something that is paced, haunting, and cold, this fits the bill. Best viewed in the dead of night with the windows open.

It might not answer all the questions you have, but it knowingly advises through one main character's dialogue that the answers and explanations are there, whether you are privy to them or not.

I can't be more specific about if this is your sort of film without spoiling the contents within. I recommend it, not as a good time, but as a dark time.

8/10

This cold and menacing film will keep you on your toes. Go in expecting the unexpected and you might have a good time. People have complained about the movie's ambiguity, but I kind of liked that. Why should we be spoon fed plot exposition when we can think about it ourselves? And besides, there are clues scattered throughout the film that will add some coherence to the plot - you just have to look and listen carefully (or Google the movie, if you can't be bothered sitting through the film again).

Has a pretty good shootout scene

A moody, supernatural thriller not without bursts of action. Directed skilfully by Jeremy Saulnier (_Green Room_), this slow burn horror film may remind you of _Let the Right One In_.

Not bad but not great, I had high expectations because Green Room was so good and I'm a little let down. It has some beautifully shot Alaskan scenery but it is slow besides that one big scene. The story is a little too ambiguous for me.

Well It scores high on the scale for It's picture, It's cast and action but lacks a lot In It's plot and ending because I was In the dark on that one and really was a mystery and disappointed me so i was lost as much as the hunter..

Wtf? I really, really wanted to like this film. The acting is great, the scenery is beautiful and the story seemed like it was going somewhere. But nooooo. It has to be artsy. I wonder if the book conveyed a message that they couldn’t get to in the movie. At the core, it ends up looking like the stereotypical ā€œnatives vs the outsidersā€ plus lore. Very disappointed.

until halfway through the film, I felt like I was watching Wind River (the shootout scene is half plagiarism). then I did not understand nothing.

it's a shame because the direction and the cast are very appreciable.
