Pretty good movie - probably better than most middle-east dramas. Other comments on here sum it up. Solid 8/10

Just watched **Beirut** in theaters staring Jon Hamm. Fun movie. It was basically 2 hours of Don Draper in the Middle East brokering a hostage deal (and drinking a shit ton of alcohol). You can't go wrong with that formula.

Can't believe there aren't more movies that attempt stories like this, when the reality of espionage and intrigue in the middle east is enormous, and over many time periods. Intriguing, but too short of the sophistication it was attempting with its acting and dialogue, and just came across as shallow by the time it was all over.

Solid political thriller, superb performances, especially pleased with the Arab cast. Bonus : Jon Hamm speaks broken Lebanese in almost every other scene

IMO we need more quality spy thrillers like this one. Historical and believable.

OK thriller that is at first a little tough to follow. It helps if you have some knowledge about th time and place. In any case it is a decent thriller that is at least worth watching once but at the same time not worth lossing sleep if you don't.

A standard political thriller with more politics than thrills. Nothing in this film rises above the ordinary, except for the cast. The only reason I'm not ranking this lower is they spared me a romance, and that has to count for something.

You'd think the writer of the Bourne trilogy would have put together a story slightly more engaging than this. It's not bad, but it never feels as tense as it should or as gritty as it should or as conflicted as it should... Everything feels somewhat neutered. I didn't dislike this film, but I was never pulled all the way in, despite a solid performance from Jon Hamm and a capable supporting cast. The end also felt a little too...overly happy? Again, not bad but not great.

I have the feeling that they were hoping for a franchise starter with this one, but I don't think it will happen. The film was reasonably okay, but surprisingly (considering Gilroy's credentials) it needed a stronger script.

It's a decent espionage thriller. The first half is slow but it picks up in the second. It is a little hard to follow if you are not familiar with the area and the conflict going on. Jon Hamm is pretty good (he is basically playing Don Draper with how much he is drinking). Rosamund Pike was good too. The only thing that stuck out was Dean Norris's wig. Why give him that distracting wig, it looks terrible.
