An Ordinary Man

An enjoyable two-hander - this comic drama isn't extraordinary, but it is nicely played by Kingsley and Hilmar.

Ben Kingsley stars in the indie political drama An Ordinary Man. The film follows a Serbian war criminal who’s being sheltered by supporters as he takes advantage of a new maid to slip the security restrictions his benefactors have placed on him, endangering both of their lives. Kingsley gives a strong performance and has good chemistry with co-star Hera Hilmar; having a bit of a mentor/student relationship. And the script explores some interesting themes; namely one man’s butcher is another man’s hero, and freedom is relative. However, it plays a little coy with what The General did and whether he really was a criminal or just a man of war. An Ordinary Man addresses some complicated and thought-provoking issues, but it isn’t quite sure where it’s going and ends up kind of petering out.
