Future World

Good movie if you like the Mad Max 'post apocalyptic' genre. Features a surprisingly diverse cast and the story kept me entertained!

It's a big pastiche of all the dystopian tropes you can muster up, as such I enjoyed it for the aesthetic alone, but there isn't much there to offer, that we haven't seen a hundred times in movies like this. If you're craving one of these wasteland type movie, it'll probably whet your appetite, but otherwise it's not remarkable.

A hackneyed Mad Max rip-off, Future World is a poor excuse for a dystopian thriller. In a war ravaged apocalyptic future the leader of a group of marauders finds and activates an android, but when he orders her to kill a young boy searching for medicine to cure his mother she turn on him. Featuring James Franco, Milla Jovovich, and Lucy Liu, the cast isn’t too bad; but Suki Waterhouse’s android performance is lacking. And the script doesn’t help much, offering little to explain the android’s evolution toward sentience or why the dystopian world is the way that it is. Also, the sets and costumes just look cheap, giving off a real B-movie feel. While it’s entertaining at times, Future World is a derivative and poorly made film.

Did you see Fury Road and think "I wonder what a worse version of this would be like"? Well, here's your movie.

As a director and actor, Franco is extremely prolific; possibly one of the busiest people in Hollywood today. His output veers wildly, from the good - The Disaster Artist - to the average - Kin -and to the downright awful - Future World. With a high turnover of films directed or produced by himself, a lack of quality control can be expected occasionally, but this film is worse than I imagined. A cliched, boring, and spectacularly stupid movie, this has very little to recommend it. Watch any of the Mad Max films again if you're a fan of the genre, and relegate this to the trash can of post-apocalyptic wannabes.

And here I was, thinking that "The Bad Batch" was a pretty bad movie already. Silly me...

2hrs wasted just like that, what a waste of talent!

Propoganda of violence, drugs and lesbianism. Also an attempt to put the meaning of something high into a cruel film. But just a try. Mad Max, with all its brutality, is a thousand times better.

Incredibly bad... Literally not sure why they wasted time and money and gas for the motorcycles to film this..
