it was good i really resonate with emma. but sometimes she was a little too much. also i love natalie portman but her acting was a little weird here for some reason
Revisiting this one and surprised at how well it stands up. The leads have great chemistry and the writing is solid (and funny!).
Natalie Portman is always a pleasure to watch and she really leant into this one. Genuinely gave those 'heart clench' moments I usually only get from good fiction.
There are a lot of "comedies", and "romantic" "comedies" that are crudely open about sex, and incorporate it into (attempts at) humor, and this is, of course, subjective, but this one struck the right balance to me, as just real enough, and just intelligent enough that I actually wasn't put off by it, and found the attempts humorous and somewhat charming. This works a lot better than most, overall, and it's only partially thanks to the great cast. I always think Olivia Thirlby is underutilized as a side character, but, other than that, the casting was spot on, but the writing is really tight as well. Not intelligent. This is a dumb romantic dramedy, but it uses its formula well.
It's a bit lighter in the intensity of its drama, and more general appeal that something like _5 to 7_, and wraps up faster than the kind of elaborate journey of _Definitely Maybe_, so it's a bit more "basic", but I still call it a solid entry into a genre of mostly irredeemable tripe.
"Did you have sex with some girl and give her a balloon?"
"What I need is someone who's gonna be in my bed at 2 am, who I don't have to lie to, or eat breakfast with."
"I hate breakfast. And lying. Also I hate war."
"We're sluts, Emma! We're dirty dirty sluts!"
"I hurt you. I'm sorry. I don't know why I wasted so much time pretending I didn't care. I guess I just didn't want to feel like this. It hurts. But I love you, I'm totally and completely in love with you, and I don't care if you think it's too late, I'm telling you anyway."
That was more fun than I expected. It ended quite sweet, and some nice fun moments. Easy watch.
It's cute. It's funny. It's a nice mindless rom-com for those of us who need a break from nominated films and blockbusters.
This was definitely one of the better romantic comedies on the market. The cast was top-notch, and Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher had strong chemistry together.
This is yet another romantic comedy with a cookie-cutter plot, but it will make you laugh!
