this was a good movie, should NOT be under horror genre through. i can see why horror enthusiasts would give this movie lower ratings. the movie does have suspenseful moments and shows what lengths people will go to protect their family from things that even they don't understand.

"It Comes at Night" is every sense of the word brilliant. Not your typical monster or trashy gore fest. Psychological and unsettling is more fitting. You barely know anything and that's the main horror behind it. The unknown and the darkness.

However, you do get a sense of what's going on be each little details. Not by characters explaining the plot to the audience, which logically wouldn't make sense in a normal conversation where these characters are one step ahead of us.

Which audience members hate. Life is very, very complicated, and so films should be allowed to be, too.

The pacing was smooth and the cinematography was so excellent, it adds to the atmosphere with the setting. And you actually like the characters even the harsh decisions are understandable, because in a fear of panic you will do the same. Not a single weak performance in the movie, everyone fitted the part.

And that ending was so cold it left me physically broken. The feeling of hopeless, somewhat reminded me of "The Mist" ending. Grim, but it felt purposeful and personal. Also leaving you thinking and try to put the missing pieces together to fill in the story.

People who say this movie is predicable or it's been done before I really don't get. I really didn't know where things were going. It honestly felt unpredictable. This been done before? Well if it has then this did it better in terms of execution.

Overall rating: Been a few day since I've seen it and I'm still thinking about it. Haven't seen Trey Edward Shults previous film "Krisha", but my curiosity for he's future work has peaked.

Almost prophetic, It Comes At Night captures the distrust and isolationism of the human condition during a deadly pandemic almost too pitch perfectly. The constant tension and unease around those we don't know, the twinge of doubt when something doesn't line up with what they said before, it's all so unnerving and truly, truly scary. Oppressive, suffocating and ultimately depressingly bleak, I'd forgotten how good It Comes At Night was at conveying its black as night message about human trust and connection. Fantastic movie.

It Comes At Night

A paranoid thriller. Oozing with tension and atmosphere. It stays with you in your head and gut.

I get why the critics gave it the positive reviews they did; the cinematography was outstanding and the direction and performances were all very good. I enjoyed it a great deal for those reasons. However, I also get why much of the viewing audience was less positive about it (like the two friends I went with.) It is most definitely a slow burn, psychological horror film that lacks the in-your-face shock and/or gore moments common in the majority of contemporary horror films. It's also bound to leave you with more questions than answers (as one friend complained, "There's not enough info!") If you want to see an extremely well made film and aren't put off by films with a slower pace that demand a bit of imagination, I highly recommend it. Seriously, some of the camera work is breathtaking.

The suspense was as dark and as thick as the night I saw it. Not a teenage slasher film, but excellent psychological horror.

Very tense movie, not the horror you would expect but still very well done. I love seeing small scale movies that just focus on a few characters and how they react to bad circumstances. Joel Edgerton is great, a scary man who you don't know what he is capable of.

Some will love it and some will hate it. It wasn't what I expected but that turned out to be a good thing. Great performances and I believe if there was a scenario like this, then it would be pretty close to the way people acted in this movie.

A well made horror movie that is much different than many others that have been released recently. It uses a dark and mysterious atmosphere that really adds to the suspense and creepiness that is present in the film. With that being said, this movie is a slow burner and I found it to be drastically different in pacing than what was shown in the trailer. There were a couple of aspects I thought could have be improved on but it is a well made horror movie that utilizes atmosphere as opposed to the generic horror formula.
