The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Renowned oceanographer Steve Zissou has sworn vengeance upon the rare shark that devoured a member of his crew. In addition to his regular team, he is joined on his boat by Ned, a man who believes Zissou to be his father, and Jane, a journalist pregnant by a married man. They travel the sea, all too often running into pirates and, perhaps more traumatically, various figures from Zissou's past, including his estranged wife, Eleanor.

This the best movie by Wes Anderson. It's charming, funny, sad and tender, yet magical. The ending... it's heartbreaking and sweet. A must-see for everyone.

This is, by far, Wes Anderson's best film. The ridiculous bits are in proportion to the serious parts, the comedy hits its mark every time, the acting is arguably the best in any of his movies, and it has an emotional edge that is lacking in movies these days. If you like quirky movies then you have to see this one, and even if you don't like them you should give this one a try

Ignore the critics who say that the movie is mid. It's an amazing movie.

I had happy-sad tears in my eyes at the end of the movie. It's been ages since I've felt that.

Probably Wes Anderson's second best movie after Fantastic Mr Fox.

Prefer this to Grand Budapest Hotel, Henry Sugar etc.

What a strange film.
It starts just a little odd, but you think it’s a relatively normal world, until they start introducing actual different animals than those we have in ours. Crayon pony fish? Hello, you’re cute.

The crew is so weird, I love it. They’re all so specifically odd, yet not over explained. Random Portuguese … not very talented singing of David Bowie , lady who refuses to wear shirts…

And I love how obviously bad it is, optically, as if it were made back in the 80s, on low budget.

Its charming. All the core characters (and the actors performances) are very engaging. Willem Dafoe is especially fun in his role. I didnt enjoy every minute of it, most of my laughs came in the first act, and then it sort of faded over time. But I'm glad to watch it whenever I do.

"I wonder if it remembers me..."

I never thought I would cry at a Wes Anderson movie, but here we are. Anderson's films, especially his recent ones, can be hit or miss for me, but I liked this one—quite a lot. I liked the characters, the story, the humor, Henry Selick's stop-motion animated section with the fictional sea creatures, and the emotional aspects of the film.

People often talk about the style, writing, and visuals in Anderson’s movies, but they never talk about when things get depressing, they hit hard like no other. He has a unique way of presenting loss, death, and the emotional hurt in characters.

That's Cousteau's Smoke in this movie.
