Shoplifters of the World

1987. Denver, Co. One crazy night in the life of four friends reeling from the sudden demise of iconic British band The Smiths, while the local airwaves are hijacked at gunpoint by an impassioned Smiths fan.

The music is good - obviously - but the link between the demise of The Smiths and the lives of the young people in this film is tenuous at best. A better film could have been made with more on offer than the sight of a few teens moping about the loss of their favourite band.
Great music, story... not so much.
[AtlĂ ntidaFF] The director's tribute to the group The Smiths is as suffocating as the embrace of a drunkard. There are visual and musical references and even lyrics to their songs turned into dialogues (which the mediocre actors release as if they were saying the shopping list). The indigestion is such that when we hear Pet Shop Boys in a gay bar is like being a liberation. The tribute turns into a massacre.
