The Alligator People

Under therapeutic hypnosis, a seemingly well-adjusted young woman tells a fantastic story, verified by lie detector, of her forgotten marriage to a man who disappeared on the day of their honeymoon, and of her search for him which takes her to a lonely mansion in a remote section of swampland tenanted by snakes, alligators, a drunken one-armed lout, a mysterious doctor, and a cold-hearted elderly woman who lives alone in a brooding manse.

Ignoring the cheesy special effect and the hammy acting, the Alligator People is and interesting film with no concrete resolution. Filmed in 1959, the Alligator People tells the tale of a young wife searching for her husband in the gator-infested bayous of Louisiana. There she trailed her groom who disappeared mysteriously on his own volition. We discover that he had narrowly survived an incredible plane crash, breaking nearly every bone in his body, yet only months later he was in the peak of health. It turns out that his mother, a wealthy widow of an intelligent scientist, had paid another scientist to experiment on her son with a special regenerative formula extracted from alligators. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the formula is changing him into a reptile. By the end of the movie, the entire compound has been destroyed, and the young wife is left having blocked every memory of the incident. If you're into classic style horror, this is a great one, despite the funny title.
