G.I. Jane

In response to political pressure from Senator Lillian DeHaven, the U.S. Navy begins a program that would allow for the eventual integration of women into its combat services. The program begins with a single trial candidate, Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil, who is chosen specifically for her femininity. O'Neil enters the grueling Navy SEAL training program under the command of Master Chief John James Urgayle, who unfairly pushes O'Neil until her determination wins his respect.

I have had this movie on my watchlist for years if not decades. Always pushed it aside because I thought it would be a sentimental or watered down version of what a woman goes through if she wants to be in combat service, I was very wrong. Damn, Demi Moore is great in this.

Anne Bancroft is perfect in her role.

Not sure what exactly the movie is trying to say, outside of the obvious message of women can do whatever men do. But it's well executed enough, even with the paper thin characters and stock late-90s Bruckheimer production style.
