Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

Maquia is a member of a special race called the Iorph who can live for hundreds of years. However, Maquia has always felt lonely despite being surrounded by her people, as she was orphaned from a young age. She daydreams about the outside world, but dares not travel from her home due to the warnings of the clan's chief. One day the kingdom of Mezarte invades her homeland. They already have what is left of the giant dragons, the Renato, under their control, and now their king wishes to add the immortality to his bloodline. They ravage the Iorph homeland and kill most of its inhabitants. Caught in the midst of the attack, Maquia is carried off by one of the Renato. It soon dies, and she is left deserted in a forest, now truly alone save for the cries of a single baby off in the distance. Maquia finds the baby in a destroyed village and decides to raise him as her own, naming him Ariel. Although she knows nothing of the human world, how to raise a child that ages much faster than her.

I Loved watching this movie so much. It is a true masterpiece that left both me and my husband DESTROYED with emotion at the end. You will not regret watching this movie despite it leaving you most likely bawling at the end. I cannot recommend a movie more than this one.

After so long I watched something this impeccable. Both the story and the animation were beyond beautiful and caught my attention in just few minutes. This movie beautifully portrayed "How Beautiful yet Harsh Life Can Be!". Even with all the mythical elements they gave a realistic approach to the story in the end and I really felt like crying because of that.
I'm definitely gonna recommend this to everyone. It'll be worth your time.

I watched **Maquia: When the Promised Flowers Bloom** last night and it was definitely a great and powerful movie. Well worth the trip and wait to watch it. It is an absolutely beautiful looking movie with some amazing characters, pretty interesting setting/world-building, and fantastically developed emotions and themes throughout. It was definitely a real tearjerker at times, especially towards the end.

There were a couple plot holes and things that were left unclear as to how and why they were happening/happened, but they were more minor concerns and quips on my end (don't really want to spoil them). They don't really hold you back from enjoying the movie. The ending was definitely an emotional whirlwind (I just didn't like one little part with Leilia), but well worth the journey and very well done overall. If your theater is still showing screenings this week (like in NYC) definitely check it out while you can. If not, pray for the BD release to come ASAP.

For those who have only seen anime movies from those legendary names like otomo, hayao Miyazaki, kon satoshi, the mamorus, etc, this is a good chance to take a closer look into anime industry nowadays.
The movie is powerful and touching, but i think it should be praised more on its originality, giving us a fresh new world of swords and magics.
in a very subtle way the stories of many different characters were told, and each of them full enough to be something on their own. About Maquia and Ariel I don't want to spoil it for you, but i can tell you its a story about love and lost, and might give you some support or insight at some point of your life.
really! go see it!

Another beautiful anime movie that shows the importance of time. I think the plot lost me at some points, but if you like an emotional story, then you'll like this movie too.

This movie was a heart-aching film centered around a mother-son relationship. The story was sometimes inconsistent, but I don't think it detracts from its emotional impact. The story has the potential to reach your heart; it indeed reached mine.
