Shaft

New York police detective John Shaft arrests Walter Wade Jr. for a racially motivated slaying. But the only eyewitness disappears, and Wade jumps bail for Switzerland. Two years later Wade returns to face trial, confident his money and influence will get him acquitted -- especially since he's paid a drug kingpin to kill the witness.

I am not a big fan of remakes because they are usually not better than the real thing. This is a good action movie but they could have given it any title. So, while the original is a classic this is generic. But good entertainment nonetheless and a good performance from Jackson.
That stare that Shaft gave the mother at the end of the movie "Why didn't you do that two court dates ago"
An extra cool performance by Samuel L. Jackson make this a decent action flick but that's it: do not expect something extraordinary!

_Shaft_ takes an interesting and refreshing angle to the classic TV show, delivering a modern update that feels both relevant and respectful to the original material. Samuel L. Jackson's portrayal of John Shaft is a perfect blend of old-school and contemporary. Overall, a smart and entertaining action film that manages to honor the legacy of the original while still carving out its own identity.

Samuel L. Jackson is Shaft in the John Singleton remake of the classic Blaxploitation film. Can you dig it? When a rich playboy gets away with murdering a young black man Detective John Shaft makes it his personal mission to bring him to justice. Jackson gives a strong performance and puts his own spin on the character (modernizing him for the 2000s). And the supporting cast is also pretty good, and includes Vanessa Williams, Christian Bale, and Jeffrey Wright. Yet the plot is rather formulaic and features all of the usual crime film tropes: dirty cops, the hero going rogue, criminals turning on each other, etc. Still there’s some good action and colorful characters. Shaft isn’t exactly a bad mother****, but it’s fun and entertaining.
