For this review I will defer to my intrepid AAC*, 9 year old, Sophie. She liked the whole movie and didn’t think it had any boring spots. Her favourite part was when they all turned into cartoons. She was not surprised by the twist and felt there might be some good in the bad guy. She gave the movie a 9 (not perfect, but really good) out of 10.
*AAC = age appropriate critic

In my opinion, the movie was enjoyable but had some parts that lagged. I’m always concerned when parents are portrayed as clueless and silly, but the young audience found those points very funny. The acting was good. It was probably a good homage to the TV series. I give the movie a 7 (good) our of 10. [Family Friendly Action Adventure]

This was surprisingly good. It's a solid kids adventure movie with a few joking references to the show. Some of those jokes were the best parts of the movie. It's funny and silly seeing Boots and Swiper interacting with real people. Isabela Moner was really great and carried a lot of the movie with her charisma. Not something you have to see but if you are familiar with the show you might have a good time with this.

There’s a funny moment. Where Dora looks at the screen and talks to the audience. While her dad looks at her like she is crazy.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is like the Brady Bunch movies. Where people ask “why was this made ?” While not realizing it’s having fun making fun of the show and it’s characters.
Isabela Moner‘s charm as Dora is what makes an unnecessary movie actually funny and fun. Since like the cast of Brady Bunch movies. She does a fine job playing her character like a dork.
The movie is funnier when it’s about Dora adapting to High School. Than it is as a comedy jungle adventure.
Michael Peña as Dora’s dad has a painfully unfunny scene where explains what a rave is. It’s painfully unfunny and drags on. Which is my only complaint.

A fun movie to turn your brain off to. If you have grown up watching Dora and if you have a romance for nostalgia, this film could be for you. Please don't sit down for this with a critical mindset. The movie carries forward the spirit of the cartoon itself and is true to its roots in new, uncanny, and hilarious ways.

The movie kicks off with Dora having to move to the city as her parents go on a dangerous quest. However, when her parents go off the radar, she is soon pulled back into the jungle and the intricacies of the expedition. Along the journey, friendships unfold and strengthen. The Dorasongs are so cosy. I probably will not rewatch this, but, this one watch has taken me back over 15 years.

I aDoraed Isabela Merced as Dora. Cole (Michael Peña) and Elena (Eva Longoria) were so amiable. I loved Randy, and Nicholas Coombe's absolutely lovable portrayal of the dude. Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg) and Sammy (Madeleine Madden) were not very memorable, frankly. Boots was all the more aDorable than I remembered.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold is dumb, wholesome and entertaining. The characters, the casting, the quirks—all had the perfect amount of Doraness in them, and they blended really well.

I've heard some complaints that this movie was cheesy and all I can think is, It's Dora! Of course it is! If you can't appreciate this movie then you obviously didn't have a child who watched Dora episodes on repeat. I mean, how do you take Dora and make it realistic? But I thought they did a great job. Showing parta of it as being her imagination as a child. Part of it being her as an awkward teen raised alone in the jungle. And I loved the cartoon bit. Yes, it's cheesy, yes it's awkward, but that's Dora. If you didn't appreciate Dora the show you probably won't get the humor or awkardness of the movie.

This was actually pretty good. It never felt too over the top stupid, had a good message. I think kids and adults can enjoy this enough. The CGI animals was a little silly and there was a moment during the climax of the film that felt overly supernatural - but this is a good film. Could have been significantly worse.
