_Poseidon_ is a high energy action-thriller that’s full of adventure. When a rogue wave capsizes a cruise ship a fierce struggle for survival begins. As a disaster film, it relies heavily on special effects; and the effects are amazing. But the film’s not all effects, Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, and Emmy Rossum all deliver solid performances and create interesting, compelling characters that enrich the story. Additionally, the writers do a good job at modernizing the capsizing scenario (from what the original did) and at creating suspense. Fun and exciting, _Poseidon_ is entertaining from start to finish.
Love this film, the effects are great and the actors have done an amazing job!
Could have been better with Wolf Gang Peterson involved. Hell, with his talent he deserved better than a unnecessary Poseidon Adventure remake.
Better off watching the original. Also better off watching Wolfgang Petersen at sea movies that aren’t this remake. Like Das Boot and The Perfect Storm.
Another one of those remakes where the original is significantly better. This movie is mediocre at best. Watch the 1972 original instead.
Hopelessly illogical plot and questionable performances but nevertheless entertaining enough if you dont take it too seriously.
I see it again and I still like this catastrophic movie with a cruise capsized by a giant wave and the hardships of those who try to get out. Not many preliminaries
the original Poseidon Adventure was a way better film. go watch that
It's like watching the 2nd half of Titanic after they hit the 'berg, only you don't know or really care about any of the characters.
Escape story. It was cool.
As you might expect, a blockbuster disaster movie usually lives or dies by the quality of its special effects. Poseidon, perhaps embracing this sensibility, storms right out of the gates with its money shot, a flyby tour of the doomed ship's exterior from all angles that could be generously described as half as impressive as it sounds. The CG looks like a student reel, amateurish and fake with some goofy footage of soon-to-be hero Josh Lucas jogging the upper decks awkwardly crammed in. It's a downhill slide from there as a thin plot yields to the power of impressive post-production effects to bail it out, and that particular cavalry never manages to arrive.
A surprisingly star-studded cast struggles with one dimensional characters, banal "here's what I'm looking at" dialog and plot twists so by-the-book I was able to accurately predict each on-screen death. It's a bland, generic, cash-in of a remake that isn't even afforded the buoy of good eye candy. Don't bother.
