Divine Love

In 2027 Brazil, civil servant Joana mainly deals with divorce cases. As a member of a branch of evangelical Christians known as the Divino Amor group, she uses her position to offer a kind of physical therapy to couples who want to separate. Although Joana and her husband Danilo regularly consummate their marriage, neither her constant prayers nor any other methods of assistance seem to be able to fulfill their desire for a child.

I really don't know what to say about this film. This brazilian movies talk about a nearly future where the laic state does not exist anymore, mixing religion with sci-fi, the movie show us an interesting environment and unusual situations: like a prayer drive-thru, a weird ritual in the church involving sex, and other things. The movie do a critic about the envangelic fanatism in the Bolsonaro's governement.

Like a well-written sermon, I'm sure there were a lot of good points here but I wasn't buying what they were preaching.

An extended metaphor for faith and belief (needlessly set 7 years in the future), this Brazilian film no doubt had interesting things to say but I'm afraid I wasn't listening.

[MUBI] Reflection on the relationship between religion and the couple that contains touches of science fiction and proposes a psychedelic futuristic look, marked by a spectacular staging, but with more than questionable content. The director cannot successfully develop an approach that is interesting from the start, and ends up offering a kind of tedious pseudo-erotic vision of the world of relationships.
