For fools: It is a weak drug movie.
For smarts: A brilliant movie expressing consequences of BIGGEST TURNING POINTS in your life and showing it thru parallel universes.
Congrats...

That was a trippy journey I didn't expect! _Flashback_ is a mind-bending thriller constantly jumping different timelines back and forth. The concept is incredibly unique and perfectly executed. It starts out pretty confusing at first but keeps drawing me in and won't let me look away. Just don't think too much because it all comes together in the end. The over stylized visuals and soundtrack create this uneasy feel from start to finish. Dylan O'Brien performance was insanely good! He's able to take me to his journey and really shows his range as an actor. It's one of those films that need your undivided attention and repeat viewings. Can't wait to revisit this and I'm excited to check out _The Conspiracy_!

2021 finally gives us a fresh movie. We can feel the originality and the director's presence in this one. It's bold in the non-linear way it is edited and original in the concept and idea. Still, it probably takes it too far and becomes too confusing when the may goal was a lot simpler. If you believe this movie is about a trip, a guy has when he consume some drugs, you got it wrong. If you believe this is a mix of sliding door with the matrix, you are better, but also wrong. If you what you see is a coming-of-age movie, then I believe this is it. And by seeing it this way, you truly get emotionally attached to it.

This film desperately wants to be the next Donnie Darko. At times it gets the same off-kilter feeling and menacingly dark undertones, but the "story" gets a bit too muddled in the final third, leaving some wild assertions unexplored. I was ultimately satisfied with this as a whole (and enjoyed the trip it took me on), despite it tip-toeing very close to the edge of becoming an incomprehensible mess.

When we throw away the theory of the function of time and focus on the reception of the film, then we have a chance to understand it. ;>

What’s real and what isn’t? Its never made that clear but it’s not as frustrating as it could have been. Dylan is good in his role, the direction is appropriately trippy, and the story is interesting. In the end though it’s less than the sum of its parts. Plot threads are left hanging at the end so it doesn’t quite deliver on its concept.

More ambitious than accomplished, the film immerses us in a hallucinatory journey that breaks timelines, building a mystery that reflects on whether or not our destiny is in our hands. Past, present and future are deconstructed to reach a conclusion that ends up being too obvious, ironically conservative. Perhaps it does not reach its objectives, but it manages to elaborate a disturbing reflection on the human being.

This was highly disappointing. The only good thing about this movie was O'Brien. Everything else was just massively confusing.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
