This film was really disappointing. It was advertised as a sort of interesting, light-hearted mix between children who have access to both Neverland and Wonderland. Yet, this film had a much more somber tone to it that wasn't necessarily suitable for younger children. I was willing to give this film the benefit of the doubt, b/c as we all know, how a film is marketed isn't necessarily what's contained in the final product. However, the film's plodding, methodical pacing really belied the entire storyline, so much so that as the film was approaching its end, there hardly seemed enough time to properly wrap up the loose ends. Ultimately, it seemed that this film had been over-edited. I got the feeling that there might've been much more going on in an original cut, b/c it was difficult to imagine such a disjointed script having been filmed.

I wanted to like this film but, sadly, it was a big disappointment. It mingled childhood and adult themes in an incoherent way and so, despite an enchanting musical score, failed to bring any magic. I suspect a better cut of this film is hidden away somewhere...maybe it fell down the rabbit hole.

Stay away if you want a movie filled with fantasy and magic. Stay away if you came here for the promise of Angelina Jolie and her performance in Maleficent. Stay away if you have other movies in your list: they are probably much better than this.

An absurd revision of the characters of Alice and Peter Pan that brings together two stories to build an unintelligent plot, which at no time find the right tone, nor the audience to whom it is directed. Only the precious and beautiful soundtrack of John Debney makes a film enjoyable that flounders in its attempt to offer an original reading of the fantasy and imagination of the two characters.

For those who don’t know, this is a live action Alice in Wonderland/Peter Pan crossover that’s directed by Brenda Chapman. Chapman is also the co-director for both The Prince of Egypt and Pixar’s Brave!
