Surprisingly fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

_We Summon the Darkness_ is a slasher movie set during the Satanic Panic - 1988, going by the reference to Metallica.
This is a horror movie, yes, but there are moments that put it in the realm of horror comedy, and those were the moments that did not work. This needed to be purely horror, but it's as if the filmmaker lacked faith in the story.
Without giving too much away about the story, this is based around the lies about Satanic murders happening during the 1980s.
The less one knows going into this, the better.
There is a lot to like here: the acting is good, the lighting, the camera work, Alexandra Daddario.
If there were a cut of this that stripped out all of the humor, I'd give it an 8. As is, I'm giving it a generous 6, but it's more like a 5.5, and most of that is for Alexandra.

The plot is stupid, all the characters are dumb heroes and villains alike, and why is this so colorful for an horror movie? It changed my opinion about Maddie Hasson, though : she's hot as hell! As always, words can't describe Alexandra Daddario.

Figured I give my 2 cents given all comments here have it rated lower than a 5...
It's by no means something original or a masterpiece but to me it was serviceable with
a good twist to kick it off
, a fair amount of kills, some comedic elements and themed around the Satanic Panic which is right up my ally...

Like jokes after 3am: stupid, but funny stupid not stupid stupid.

A wonderful cast, a script that skirts many fatal film tropes, and decent directing make this throw-away horror film somewhat of a keeper.

Alexandra Daddario leads the cast in the indie horror film We Summon the Darkness. After attending a rock concert Alexis and her friends invite some guys back to her house to party, but things aren’t what they seem and take a dark and deadly turn. Unfortunately the script isn’t that well-written; telegraphing all its twists in advance and awkwardly revealing the killer’s motive. Still, the performances are pretty good, and some of the chases and fight scenes are exciting. Also, the violence has a bit of a comedic edge that helps set the satiric tone. Yet while it’s entertaining, We Summon the Darkness is a rote thriller that’s hindered by its clunky attempts to make social commentary.

Another total waste of time. I’m so sick of quickly thrown together, period piece horror films. The only interesting thing about this film is Johnny Knoxville. I really wish he’d do more movies. And what was up with the boat engine?!? Wtf? LOL. This is another “don’t bother” flick if you ask me.

:-/ ingredients ought to yield more fun than this. Obviously not creepy, no other real redeeming qualities either.

Sadly another bad Netflix movie. It's worse than a very bad 80's horror movie. There's nothing worth watching here.
