Maybe its me but each one of these just seem to get better and better. Still a fun romp at the 3rd installment!
I went into this not knowing it was a sequel to the other movies, a Happy surprise! It's pretty good, it's not crazy high budget but definitely a quality SyFy movie.
It's like the bigger their budget became the better the movie turns out.
I was giving a 6 but thanks to Rose it deserves more. She was a badass.
Maybe you have to be a bit more of a science fiction fan than most to like this movie but, personally, I do not really understand why its ratings seems to be so poor? Sure it is not great but I rather enjoyed it.
The movie takes place a few years after the second movie, Beyond Skyline, in the franchise. A bit sad that they chose to have a rather apocalyptic setting where humanity really didn’t seem to have benefited from their new “allies” nor from the technology they actually acquired in the previous movie.
Unfortunately the writers also decided to go with a really standard Hollywood villain in the psychopathic, out of control, kill everything General Radford. Hollywood’s choices of bad guys are unfortunately rather limited in these agenda driven days.
If we overlook the poor bad guy and the poor plot that resulted from that choice (not sure which came first, the silly plot or the poor bad guy though) then what remains is really a very decent action movie with a fair amount of cool special effects.
There’s a fair amount of action. Both martial arts ones and the more trigger happy variety. The space scenes are also not bad at all and the monsters, well of course the old “baddies” are back and they added a few more varieties.
On the whole, I quite enjoyed the movie. Sure, it doesn’t really put too much load on the viewers’ brains but still, it is a quite decent movie. The one thing that annoyed me though, apart from the dumbass General, was Rose’s powers always shorting out at critical moments, even after she had supposedly overcome the interference of the “queen”.
Very enjoyable movie. Well worth a watch 👌
I, like @Coasttech, didn't go into this looking for much more than an afternoons throwaway time waster, but, I TOO was also pleasantly surprised. No, the SFX aren't on a Ridley Scott, or, James Cameron level, but, hey, it's friggin NETFLIX", and, they are slowly but surely upping their game. They are willing to take chances on properties that the major studios are no longer willing risk money on.
Back in the day, this would have been the "B" movie double feature at your local drive in, that is, a mid budget movie suitable for loading the kids in the back of the Vista Cruiser, with a bucket of KFC and a cooler of ice cold Shasta, while waiting for it to get dark enough so the show could start at the local drive in. Nuthin' to get dressed up about, but, it beats a kick in the nether's with a steel toed boot anytime.
Besides, it's always fun to watch Dr. Julius Bashir chew a bit a scenery while channeling Robert Oppenheimer, riffing on the Bhagavad-Gita, which was one of the most successful cases of quote borrowing plagiarism recent memory. Lindsey Morgan is believable(ish) in her role as the reluctant ( if somewhat naïve ) savior of mankind. Rhona Mitra, once again seems to have missed "The Last Boat", and then, there is even a cameo by all around "action guy" Frank Grillo. Like I've said before, I see Frank on the credits, I'm IN.
To reiterate, it's NOT high art, but, if you like Sci Fi, and aren't the kind of fan/nerd who bitches that they didn't get the lettering of the hull insignias of on Enterprise WHATEVER, in whichever series you think came directly from your favorite Gene Roddenberry orifice, and it doesn't ruin your suspension of disbelief when you can briefly see the tips of Obi-wan's (actual) prop light saber peeking out from it's SFX glow, then, pop a cold one, heat up a couple hot pockets, and put your feet up for an hour and 45 minutes. You won't even need to double mask!!!!
Sadly, none of the Skyline films are fantastic, but yet they are still enjoyable to watch and do get better as they progress.
The first was all CGI and had little storyline, thankfully the second did improve on that. The third had more well known actors, but it didn’t really improve.
I’m confused about the third film: why are all the female actresses in full make up and false eyelashes, when it’s set post apocalyptic and they live in refugee camps in poor conditions?
Additionally, in the third film, I personally found the aliens comedy banter annoying.
They have good potential, creative cgi and costumes and the overall storyline is there. But, they are not refined enough for a blockbuster :(
Ok, a movie featuring Lindsey Morgan, Rhona Mitra and Alexander Siddig? Had to watch that.
It is VERY cheesy at times, the story is the standard sci-fi "we got invaded but we are fighting back" scheme, the twists are predictable, since every sci-fi story does them but somehow it is entertaining.
It gets kind of boring in the middle, but I really liked the end.
For some reason I really like this series, dont remember 1st one, 2nd one only Rose thing was interesting, this one I couldnt stare away. Not original definitely, not the best CGI but I was waiting for it and it didnt disappoint so... nice.
In fact, the beginning of the movie was binding you to the screen but after sometime, the scenes started get lame. It is clear that they have spent time at the CGIs but I got bored towards the end, idk. It is just another timekiller movie for me with some familiar faces from the tv-series. The movie mistakes at the credits were nice though.
