**Part of my 2022 Comedy Thursdays**

This is just a rewatch because I got my hand on the Arrow release, and well...I just wanted to see the b...erm...movie again. Also, I'm still wondering how many meters of boob tape they used to keep everything in place during the production of this movie. If I ever get to meet Cassandra Peterson, I'll ask her. Just for the science of it, of course.

**Old review below...**

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark is a guilty pleasure of mine. And it's not ONLY because of Cassandra Peterson's ample bosom.

It's also because Cassandra Peterson in her Elvira persona is quite charming and funny and that helps this movie quite a lot. Most of the time I was laughing came from something she said or did. The rest of the cast is ok, but no one really stands out.

The story, on the other hand, leaves a little to be desired. It's just a vessel to cram as much of Elvira's charming comedic talents into an hour and a half, but that doesn't really matter all that much as the movie is quite watchable with just Elvira running the show.

You have to excuse me as I have had a couple of drams of whisky while watching this, but I can't help wondering...

How many meters of boob tape/glue did they have to use to keep those boobs in place during all that jumping and running???

If you were a horror fan back in the '80s you probably know of Elvira who hosted a plethora or horror movie marathons on American television. This is her first venture into being the filmstar herself and she really shines bright. If you love Elvira then this film is for you.

Fun fact: William Morgan Sheppard is the main antagonist of the film who also did all the narration of the PC game "Sid Meier's Civilization V".

"Elvira" is a fun movie. Cassandra Peterson has a real talent for comedy. The actors playing the other characters could have been anyone. Nothing about them stands out. Overall, no one should be surprised that this is about anything other than Elvira's cleavage.

"Oh. I see. Well, the last thing I wanna do is get you guys in any trouble. I mean, so what if it blows my only chance at making a living? I mean, that's not your problem. And if I get so depressed, I wind up hanging myself in the oven... Heck! Those are the breaks. But if they ever ask about me, tell them I was more than just a great set of boobs... I was also an incredible pair of legs. And tell them... Tell them that I never turned down a friend. I never turned down a stranger, for that matter. And tell them... Tell them that when all is said and done, I only ask that people remember me by two simple words... Any two, as long as they're simple." (Hysterical crying)

Just found out that Cassandra Peterson came up in the Groundlings, explains a lot lol

A goofy, fun romp. It's not as edgy as one probably expects with a character like Elvira. Feels more like an adolescent adventure, kinda like the sorta thing you'd find Ernest or PeeWee doing. But Elvira is likeable and the fun she has is infectious.

“Unpleasant dreams.” Elvira finally gets her own B-horror movie adventure in Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. When her great aunt dies Elvira heads to a small New England town to collect her inheritance, but Elvira’s punk-rock attitude doesn’t go over too well with the locals. It’s a pretty formulaic set up, and the characters are all one-note stereotypes. Additionally, the sex jokes are incredibly gratuitous and get old rather fast. Still, the cheesiness of it all is fun and the horror movie satire is somewhat clever. Elvira: Mistress of the Dark kind of works as an homage to low-budget horror cinema, but it’s a little too goofy and meta.
