Fat Girl

Anaïs is twelve and bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. She watches her older sister, Elena, whom she both loves and hates. Elena is fifteen and devilishly beautiful. Neither more futile, nor more stupid than her younger sister, she cannot understand that she is merely an object of desire. And, as such, she can only be taken. Or had. Indeed, this is the subject: a girl's loss of virginity. And, that summer, it opens a door to tragedy.

Beautiful film that keeps you gripped all the way through. Bit of a slow burn and not an easy watch. Will definitely not be everyone's kind of thing but it does leave quite an effect on you.

The story is very creative, with an organic, daring and extremely realistic narrative. It tackles a variety of delicate adolescent themes, such as discoveries, mental health, moral and physical abuse, acceptance, doubts and certainties. All of this is presented very fluidly, explicitly and with extreme naturalness. The performances by Anaïs Reboux and Roxane Mesquida are impeccable, and they establish a completely authentic and sometimes introspective dynamic that drives the narrative effectively. The film is controversial, disturbing and distinctive, with longer scenes that allow a deeper involvement in the details of the story, and a final act that is completely impactful and surprising.
