This was an interesting mystical horror mystery. I can't say I was floored by the storyline, acting, or visuals, but it managed to keep my attention.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

Not the best horror mystery I've seen but it's decent enough and I quite enjoyed it. It starts out really interesting, telling us about the origin of this entity or spirit that the soon become a dangerous threat, presented in such cool animation. Although it's too fast and a bit difficult to swallow, it got me really invested in what comes next. Unfortunately, the narrative becomes quite messy from there. It's mainly about this monk's quest to hunt the spirit before it unleashes hell on Earth but they keep adding too many things in such a disjointed way. Luckily, the mystery is thrilling enough with a help from the characters that create this interesting dynamic to hook me through the end. The murder investigation parts are alright but the possession victims really got me. This film also has beautiful cinematography with a decent atmosphere. I wish the moments toward the end would be bigger after all the buildup but overall I'm fine with it.

Kim Tae-hyung's directed film The 8th Night is a mystical, horror tale of ancient monsters and exorcisms. With an eerie and foreboding atmosphere, 8th Night definitely mesmerizes with its beautiful color-graded cinematography but due to inadvertent and bloated writing goes haywire in the second half. The characters keep you intrigued but only till the first half. Better to skip this one.
