If you liked the first one you'll like the 2nd one. I loved the first one and loved this one as well. I didn't go into this movie expecting some amazing story that would win some pointless Oscar. I went into it so I could see some over the top cheesy action, a man battling sharks, an octopus and other random stuff. I got every bit of that and more. Just grab your popcorn and sit back for the rode.

It is still a good and enjoyable movie as the last part. They have made some good connections with the previous part too.

If you liked the first movie, you will like this one to. It’s not a great movie, but extremely enjoyable. Jason statham fan boy here so that helps to. Must watch if you like over the top action movies combined with unrealistic things haha.

The phrase "from the sublime to the ridiculous" sums up how Meg 2 bounces back and forth throughout its duration. The 'sublime' bits are the impressive CGI sequences, the 'ridiculous' is just about everything else. As expected, there are more megalodons
but this time there are various other "denizens of the deep" to contend with, and even some land-based mini dinosaurs to contend with, Jurassic Park style, whose reason for existence in the present day was never made clear, as far as I remember. The intro sequence with the dinosaurs, where a megalodon made a chocolate-bar-sized snack out of a T-Rex, was set in prehistoric times, and doesn't seem to provide any link to the present-day land dinosaurs. It's purely just a way to show off the gargantuan enormity and ferocity of the megalodons. However, the dinosaurs throughout the film are really just there as deus ex machinas to take out the human antagonists whilst the protagonists are battling the sea monsters. There was a "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus" scene that I was worried would drag the film inescapably into the murky depths of a SyFy-Channel-esque abyss, but thankfully the moment passed quickly. Meiying, who was a cute and bright and very likeable eight-year-old in "The Meg" has become, in Meg 2, a belligerent and annoying teenager. The producers were probably trying to hit the "rebellious teenager" vibe but instead they just created a very dislikeable, irresponsible liability who couldn't follow orders and repeatedly put herself and others at risk as a result, and served no real purpose (to the other characters) at all. Personally, I think it would have been better for her to have been the one that succumbed to death by helmet pressure implosion.
As with its predecessor, Meg 2 is in many ways a typical Jason Statham action film - ridiculous but entertaining and visually impressive action sequences, gruff but quiet dialogue (from him), swift, purposeful and determined strutting about (the latter actually being joked about in the dialogue) - but this isn't a bad thing. Nobody is likely to go to watch Meg 2 expecting a scientifically or historically accurate or believable portrayal of a "man-vs-shark" situation, but if for some reason they do, they're in for a big disappointment. That's not to say that Meg 2 is in any way disappointing. It's actually better than the first in some ways, and is great as a light-hearted film with some comedy action sequences and amusing quips/behaviour from some of the main cast (interestingly, DJ's OTT gung-ho showboating is actually funny in this film, but I found exactly the same behaviour from Finn in Star Wars TFA really irritating; maybe because TFA was trying to be a serious film, whilst Meg 2 makes no such pretence), with a very generous helping of cheese, and some mildly tense scenes in line with the 12A rating (in the UK).
The rating would probably also explain why - along with the usual Hollywood lack of desire to ever kill the 'cute' domestic animals - Pippin survived two coastal shark attacks, despite desperately trying to commit suicide by running into shark-infested water (Meg 1) and then goading the sharks from the jetty (Meg 2). Its owners are clearly cursed with being attacked by sharks every time they go to a beach wedding ;-)
Watch Meg 2 with these in points in mind and you will probably enjoy it.

As much as I enjoyed part deux of "Jonas Taylor finds new and interesting ways to defeat the bad guys and kill the big bad", (in this case NUMEROUS big badda bad's), joined by his left and right hand bros Mac' and DJ, the writers somehow found a way to make Meiying, the cute kid from the first adventure, irritating and insufferable as they force feed us her now supposedly smart teenaged version, who can't follow even simple instructions, which puts the rest of the cast in peril multiple times, yet, she gets away with it with a flash of her big browns and dimples. Sienna Guillory dons a bob wig and does her best Evangeline Lilly impression, as the corporate head of some unnamed mega firm, surreptitiously mining unobtanium from the titular critters home turf, whose "the jig is up" moment comes when Meiying's Uncles "pet" meg ("we raised it from a pup") escapes from Alcatraz, er, its pen, cuz...."me so horny"..., and, it went looking for love in apparently all the right places, following them into the forbidden zone, where the mining operation was discovered.

Oh well, now we gotta kill EVERYONE, so, cue an appropriately ethnic looking ex con, who Jonas, now an "eco-warrior" in the interim from Meg 1, apparently sent up the river so, he's got a bone or two to pick. Skyler Samuels dons her best Clark Kent specs, as the brainiac traitor Jess, who channels Samuel L in "Deep Blue Sea" and eventually finds out that "Meg proof" ain't all it's cracked up to be. The remainder of the cast don their "red shirts" and either succumb to water pressure, gunfire, or end up as num nums and/or Meg snackos for various new fauna introduced from the breaching of the forbidden zone. A couple of fun bits where we learned that DJ, comic sidekick in the first outing, has indeed "learned to swim, now catching the rhythm of the strokes", as well as attending the Michael Jai White "Jax" school of kicking ass and chewing bubble gum, although he had to borrow the bubblegum, but, not the 50 Cal Desert Eagle he keeps in his man purse, er, designer backpack.

All in all, predictable good fun, worth a couple of bags of "cheesy" Jiffy pop if you've got nothing else planned for the evening.
