Beautifully made and well acted. People just love to throw out 2’s and 4’s on here lol.
Thoroughly enjoyable and very sweet.
I had a great time watching 'Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey'. It's very well acted, has a story that's entertaining and features neat special effects. The musical numbers are also good.
Forest Whitaker is excellent as Jeronicus, as is Justin Cornwell in the role of the lead character's younger self. Madalen Mills is impressive as Journey, while Keegan-Michael Key is terrific as Gustafson. Ricky Martin is a smart cast, also, as Don Juan Diego. It is a very competently cast film.
The plot is very good, I felt entertained and touched by it. It has a fair bit of humour, but also sturdiness and heart. That is all helped by the pleasant effects, which look nice throughout. There's also some nice use of stop-motion animation, too.
I highly recommend this.
one of the most beautiful christmas movies created in a LOOOOOOONG while, its refreshing, original and heartwarming! I'm a sucker for steampunk clockwork, but thats not the only thing that got me
this is the sort of magical christmas movie that ive been craving for yeaaaars
I was excited for this one due to the gorgeous costumes/set design and diversity, but it's also much more than that! The musical numbers were delightful, especially combined with the costuming.
The premise of magic and wonder stands out to me here, because rather than the traditional fantasy that you'd expect it's the beauty of _math_ and engineering (and with a female main character at that). It was really interesting to see, because math is often depicted as "stuffy" and definitely not creative even if advanced math _does_ need a lot of imagination. Truly made me wish I didn't let go of math when I was younger.
You can really tell a lot of love and effort was put into this movie!
I thought this movie was good, although I wouldn't call it a Christmas movie. It takes place during Christmas, but Christmas isn't important to the story or the characters. Essentially, take out all mentions of Christmas, and the film would be exactly the same.
That said, I enjoyed it and I liked the songs. I thought the chemistry between the characters didn't really develop until midway though the film. The characters were likable, but had some superficial and forced moments in the beginning. The singing for the songs didn't match the characters' lips.
I think the Gustafson subplot may have been a little under-cooked. While it was good in principle, it felt forced and inarticulate. It didn't really add anything to the plot besides a cliche villain. Key played the part well, but that's the only highlight of the story for his role. Gustafson's story could have easily reinforced the A-story, but instead tried, and failed, to compete with it.
All that negativity aside, the younger cast and the eldest of the cast played their roles spectacularly and their scenes stood out. I really liked how well executed the "suddenly breaking into song"s were done. Going from story to song and back to story was real smooth, and the songs did well to reinforce the plot and mood.
Definitely one to watch during the holidays, but don't expect a Christmas movie.
I had no expectation going in. Didn't watch a trailer, nothing. Just heard people liked it. So did I! A beautiful, colorful, yet modern, Christmas movie with a strong Steampunk vibe. Strong musical sequences featuring Forest Whitaker of all people and Keegan-Michael Key is just a delight onscreen....even if I didn't buy him as a villain. Ricky Martin is involved vocally at least and has a great musical number as well. I recommend this to anyone wanting to see a good musical Christmas movie this year. Just not sure about the re-watchability of this and the middle sags a little after a strong start...I hereby withhold the right to change my mind on this review next year!
There's a nice message at the heart of this movie, but its sometimes lost thanks to the abundance of musical numbers and overall tweeness. Not a Christmas classic then, at least for me. Perhaps my heart is just too hard to thaw.
Entertaining family film, not so Christmas-y as I expected… but the musical numbers were astoundingly good!! By far the best
Had nothing to do with Christmas other than the fact that the main character has to come up with either money or a invention before Christmas. Visually the movie is pretty solid. Story was ok, but weak most of the time. Cast feels a bit forced to me though. 6/10
This movie had absolutely nothing to do with Christmas other then it was the same time period. Fail.
