Deeply tragic, raw, and real movie sequel to the anime series. Painful story about two people who need to let go of each other to set themselves free, but who deeply and toxically love each other (and live together, it's messy).

As someone with firsthand experience, I can understand it's for the best, but as a romantic (and probably why I have firsthand experience) I can't help but wish there was a way to fix it. To wish that it wasn't too broken. To ask, if two people are good people and care about each other so much, why can't it work out? But then again, that's why these toxic cycles can continue on for years, as this movie also shows.

"I don't want all the things filling this room to disappear. Maybe something will remain. Even if we can never be the same again... even if we go somewhere far away...

I hope at least the music will remain."

I am a mess rn... seriously the way love is portrayed in such a nuanced way with genuine character growth is so special to see. They did a great job on this.

I loved that the love story matched the couple in this movie. While their counterparts are still exploring what love means and have a slightly more innocent outlook, Akihiko and Haruki here are in a different stage of life. Their story is a little messier and weighed down by their previously experiences. I like that mistakes were made, but they worked through it.

Personally, I found the song this time round was a bit underwhelming, but I believe that the plot made up for it.
