This movie is not the typical DeNiro movie but it was good, it had its moments. I thought it was funny, light and had a nice pace
Considering the fact that this is from the director of the lamentable The Poison Rose, this was much better than I expected. The cast were great and the story was fun so I actually had a good time with this film. Perhaps this was the comeback that Gallo needed.
If you wanna see the old guns in an average movie, this is it. The story flows a bit slow and you can fall asleep. On the other hand, De Niro, Freeman and Jones are acting great as usual. 6/10
A slow start but with surprisingly hilarious moments, once it got going.
Think Road Runner meets De Niro.
A rare occasion where it's a film that's somehow less than the sum of its parts. A shorter first act and a little more commitment to the farce in the second were sorely needed.
[Amazon] Remake of an unknown film, this screwball comedy tries to pay homage to the B movies of the seventies, but ends up having a stale style, it is a tribute to the past but abducted by the past. The absence of a director causes three great actors to approach comedy with different styles, not always successful. However, there are some funny moments.
By the end I think I understood what the film makers were trying to achieve but failing the whole way through. They failed to set the tone of the film at the start or to have a distinct switch in tone such as a film like From Dusk Til Dawn. It starts of as a fairly normal comedy but then tries to use B-movie sensibilities to warrant completely nonsensical action and plot twists. There is a while it becomes a live action cartoon with absurdist action that you would assume to have killed people but after a brief visit to hospital the injured parties are perfectly fine again. The best thing about the film is the great cast who do a great job of (mostly) saving terrible the writing from making this completely unwatchable.
The basic premise isn't bad and considering all the ingredients the director had at their disposal, it's disappointing that they failed so badly. Maybe to add a layer to the irony of the films shortcomings and subject matter, there were behind the scenes challenges that explain why it's so poor. Maybe the director was behind schedule and the producers stepped in to finish the film or maybe the director just doesn't understand the B-movie genre as well as they probably think they do.
Boring as hell, the script is ao bad
I want to see "Killer Nuns"!!!
