Failure to Launch

At 35, Tripp has an interesting job, a hip car, a passion for sailing, an active dating life, and a great house - trouble is, he still lives with his parents, Al and Sue, who are not happy about it. Al and Sue are fascinated when friends whose adult son has recently moved away from home reveal they hired an expert to help. In desperation to push Tripp out of the nest once and for all, Al and Sue hatch a plan to hire Paula, an "interventionist," who has a formula in these cases.

Great date night movie, it’s funny and light and a great subject. Kathy Bates is great in this film as is Terry Bradshaw. Film moves at a good pace and just fun to watch.

A simply OK film, though the last 20/30 minutes or so does drag a tad.

Matthew McConaughey is good, Sarah Jessica Parker is good, the support cast (which includes an early role of Bradley Cooper's) are good. I didn't overly enjoy what I was watching, but I wasn't particularly bored with it either. I don't really have much to say about it in truth.

At around 90 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome. That makes it a watchable, if slightly forgettable, flick from 2006 in my books.

Bradley Cooper. That's it. That's the comment.

This movie had a number of plot holes, and instead of connecting the characters to move the story foward, they simply placed one scene after another without any real sense of purpose. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey didn't have great chemistry, which was due more to the script than their efforts. In the end, the real problem was that the story was built on a lie told by McConaughey's character. It was easy to tell that this movie was penned by men, as they had McConaughey's character claim that he was being used, when, in reality, he had repeatedly used women, including Parker's character.

Unfortunately, there were too few jokes for a comedy. But I thought the story was still quite original and fun.

matthew mcoughnahay is revolting as an actor and doesn’t deserve to be the lead in so many rom-coms
