OH.MY.GOD!

Okay, so by reading the description, I was led to believe this is going to be some sort of a horror movie and it is, somehow. But it's much more than that.

The atmosphere is captivating. For anyone reading this now, the set-up is very much like the one in From, which is the leader of mystery thrillers for me in recent times.

If this movie is anything, it's not being predictable. Even short scenes have unexpected twists, while every detail plays out its role in the big picture.

The way this movie blends the drama, the irony, the fear and the comedy is amazing. Brody is amazing (and he kinda goes up on my list of favourite actors the more I discover him). Joaquin Phoenix is amazing too.

I'm surprised this movie has such a low rating. I guess it's because of the morale and the lack of a more complex intrigue, but I found it quite compelling the way it was. No matter what you do, you cannot avoid evil forever; at some point, you'll need to fight it. One way or another.

Ok firstly this cast is nuts. Like, every 5 minutes someone else wanders on screen and you’re like wait is that…? And it is. Stacked! What I really love though is the little narrative sleight of hand around the halfway mark where it quietly swaps out protagonists, and Ivy’s such an enchanting character to follow. Her blindness is used very cleverly to manipulate what elements of the plot she (and we) isn’t allowed to see. Also my experience of the film was 100% juiced by the fact that I knew nothing about it going in, and I think that’s the perfect way to meet it, rather than waiting for The Twist like you’re reading Wikipedia in your head. And honestly I think this has aged really well and would’ve banged if it got released today. The mood, the setting, the performances – it all feels strangely timeless. Good movie! Four stars

I was not sure what I was expecting before watching this, but definitely was not what happened — and I don't mean that in a negative sense.
There was moments during the film that I was wondering what was the point. where was the mystery. where was the catch. in the end, it was there all along.
i need some time to think about this better and maybe even rewatch, but in general I would say it's worth the watch.

I had seen this film two times before, back in 2004 when it was released and I completely hated. I can't explain exactly why, maybe because it was slow paced, and at the time I was 14 and I came to the theatre to see an horror film and then I discovered that it wasn't horror and I got disappointed. Obviously now that I am older I can appreciate in a film things that I didn't before.

It's a very good story that keeps you guessing throughout the film until the end. Once again Shyamalan can create the perfect mystery, the power of sounds, shadows and figures make us fear something that we can even see at first. We keep guessing and guessing and the tension grows until you finally find what was really happening.
All of the cast is also great. Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody and particularly Bryce Dallas Howard are amazing! She gave a stunning performance!
The cinematography and the score are fantastic! The atmosphere is great!

Sometimes is great to revisit a film that we don't see in a long time, specially if you had seen it in a younger age. You can appreciate things differently, so for me it was totally worth it revisit The Village, contrary to what I was thinking.
