In a sleepy provincial town, a Jehovah’s Witness community is under attack from an extremist group. In the midst of this conflict is Yana, the wife of the community leader, whose familiar world is slowly crumbling around her. Meanwhile, a detective intrudes on her home with devastating consequences.
[IFFR] The male narrative turned Medusa into a monster, while in the Greek origin she was a muse. For Yana's husband, rape implies a certain acceptance. This masculine view marks the path of an uncomfortable, claustrophobic film that seems to expel the viewers but in reality traps them in its static, rigid shots. And in its splendid use of the off-camera, where that which threatens the main image seems to be. Magnificent example of a thoughtful cinema.
