I don't care guys... I love Zombie Flesh Eaters!!!

Is it the best zombie flick ever? No!!! Of course not, but that doesn't matter. This was one of those films we only heard whispers about from friends that had seen it (or just wanted you to believe they had), and when I finally got to see it at the age of twelve, I was blown away.

I've got a lot of good memories about this one. Dares for friends that hadn't (dared to?!?) seen it yet. Scared girlfriends that clung to me more than they watched the scary film. And of course...the first time I saw it.

To me...this is the best zombie flick...EVER!!!

Fulci and eye trauma. Why do you hate eyeballs! Yeah this film is as amazing on my 50+ watch as it was on my first.

Watched this multiple times and it _still_ isn't old! LOL Dated, yes, but still a ton of fun for fans of hardcore zombie movies, especially those Italian masterpieces. The acting is atrocious, the dialogue is so awful it's laughable - _"Si, senor. Miguel guard. Doctor no worry."_ - and the overall film is utterly awful, but wow... so much fun to watch. I still consider the scene from 00:45:55 - 00:46:20 probably one of my favorites - if not one of the best ever - in zombie flicks. Makes absolutely no sense (just watch it and decide for yourself) but still just so much fun to watch, enjoy, and laugh at...and get a queasy stomach in certain parts. I've watched Lucio Fulci zombie movies so many times they almost feel like an old t-shirt now: Just comfortable to get into in spite of how worn-out they are or how many holes they have. I don't know if I'll ever watch this one again - at my age, probably not - but it was great to watch it again this time. Laughed through most of it, cringed at some of it, but enjoyed almost every second of it all over again.

It's a classic in the zombie movie genre.

This wasn't the first time I've seen this (I saw it as _Zombie_ years ago) but dang if it ain't still a classic Italian zombie flick. Wow... complete with the cheesy music, the spaced-out sound effect, the extreme close-ups of the eyes as someone is frozen in terror. And the acting...oh my heavens, yes...the acting! Definitely Academy Award-winning stuff here! Everything from the agonized tossing of the head in despair as the zombies close in, to the grim face of determination as the hero lines up the head shot for the kill...and misses completely. This was so much fun to watch all over again. And yes, it's cheesier than a Wisconsin dairy farm but I have to give super big props to the makeup artists. Even by 30-year-old standards, the makeup and special effects here were some of the best you can see in a zombie movie. And whomever came up with the concept of an underwater zombie going head-to-head with a great white shark... Just wow. I know I'm biased simply because I'm old and I remember watching these movies from "back in the day" when they were still hot-off-the-presses (and "video" was something to do with PacMan or Space Invaders) but after watching this again, yeah...definitely still fun. The story, the acting, it's all completely laughable, yet somehow the film still manages to make you slightly uncomfortable while you're watching it. If you're a fan of zombie movies and you've never watched this one, you really should give it a try. You might end up hating it because it's dated and the acting is pretty lame, but you have to at least watch it for the zombie effects. Well worth it!

Available on Pluto On-Demand at the time of this review.

Sure it may just seem like a grimy, cheap knockoff of Dawn of the Dead, and yes it started out like that, but this is still a truly impressive feat in the zombie genre. The story and imagery is soo surreal, it just leaves you with moment after moment you're not likely to forget. It accomplishes things that still haven't been matched to this day.

the one I liked the most from Lucio Fulci. Includes the classics, see flesh, pierced eye, blood. That zombie vs shark fight contemplated by the girl who dives in a thong

While this movie does have one or the other good moment, I generally do not get why it is so highly rated. (For info: I watched the English version and the dubbing is mediocre at best.)
The special effects are cheap, mostly unconvincing and repetitive. The story is decent at best but the acting is just bad. Mostly the actors seem not to know what to do while they wait for the zombies come in slow motion towards them. They just wait patiently and quietly to be bitten in order to perform a quirky “I am terrified” act.
This is to me at the lower end of a B movie.
Ok for hard core fans of the genre but to forget about by the general public. As said, I do not get the 7 and more star ratings. But maybe that is just me …
