I just came from watching this in the theater. I applauded at the end! I'm pretty sure it is the best movie I've seen so far this year.

'X'... I didn't see that coming! Admittedly, I practically came in fully blind, but still. It's not only an impressively stylish movie, it's an absolutely wild ride from beginning to completion. A fantastic horror slasher, it's brought to life superbly on and 'off' screen.

Mia Goth brings an excellent performance, that one scream fails to escape my memory... co-star Jenna Ortega matches her in that department though, perhaps even surpasses. I've known Goth by name for a while, but this is the first movie of hers that I've logged.

Ortega herself is very good too, as are all of the others in this 2022 release. Brittany Snow does well, is it just me (probably) that sees a facial resemblance to Christine Lakin? (shoutout anyone who watched 'Internet Icon' featuring her back in the day).

Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi, that one shot is a madness btw 😂 insert Rowley Jefferson gif here). Martin Henderson, Owen Campbell and Stephen Ure play their part too. The deaths are awesome - super well done. The one with the secondary eye pop edit got me squeamish; the editing is top tier.

Just looked up the filming locations for this... New Zealand?! I was totally convinced that the farm was the same one used for 'The Walking Dead'. Aside from a few differences, the house and barn match my (admittedly fading) memory of Hershel's digs. Clearly not!

Lastly, I did not even realise, until looking at the Wikipedia article in fact, that Goth played Pearl as well... crazy prosthetics! That does make the eponymous follow-up's cover make a lot more sense (given I knew it was a prequel), I was questioning that until this very moment.

I absolutely loved this movie. 10 out of 10 if I were to say anything negative about it is they could probably have shortened it by about 15 minutes but the second half of the movie was absolutely awesome. It’s unexpected things some funny things and some disgusting things. This movie was an absolute joyride.

Like the diry movie RJ wanted to make, X transcends the genre.

I saw this originally on SVOD but when it (*finally*) came to Paris -- one day *after* Halloween and on only one theater!? (why does France hate Ti West / A24?) -- I leaped at the chance to see it on the big screen and holy fuck am I glad I did.

West's directing here is flawless. I was already a fan of his work after his 2013 found footage flick The Sacrement, but X is next level.

The are edits like the lemonade scene, juxtaposing sex and death. There's the Chekhov's alligator, the amazing angles, the mini-flash forwards, the (sometimes subtle, sometimes overt) references to classic horror like Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre... A true delight for the eyes and mind from beginning to end.

What I appreciated as well was how West held off on the gore until the third act, which adds a sense of drama to the film and makes it more than just another slasher flick. Still, when he goes there -- and he goes there hard -- the gore is gasp-out-loud good.

X is not only the best horror film I've seen this year, it's the best horror I've seen in years.

Like skinny dipping in a blood bath, I was all in.

Ti West took a slightly above average horror film and directed the fuck out of it to make it full of suspense, meaning, and frights.

I know this is getting a lot of comparisons to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but there's a lot of Psycho in it, too.

Easily the best horror movie I've seen so far this year.

The trailer for this film certainly is misleading but in a good way, as it makes it seem this movie will be a bit strange with a "Hereditary" type vibe or "Midosommar." But it turned out to be a full out slasher horror film with a dirty twist. Very much a modern style typical farm/out in the middle of nowhere "Killer hunts victims" horror film like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Scenery is very well done, one would never know that the movie was filmed in a totally different location than the plot takes place. Actors are pretty well known and do a great job. Only negative comment I haver for this movie is that it was a bit fast, not enough plot build up. But overall it certainly keeps you on your toes and entertained.

Not only Ti West's best film but the best all-out horror movie in ages. Balls-out awesomeness. Extremely well acted, great gore. and a nice soundtrack. Slightly meta and nice use of split screen

PS: Stay through the credits as the post-credit scene is the best i've seen in years too

This film is everything I love about old school slashers, but with a modern twist! Plot is simple and effective, kills are over the top and come hot and heavy (once they start happening). It’s inspiration from Texas Chainsaw Massacre is very apparent. What is even more fun is the “double duty” of one of the actors that I didn’t even realize! This movie made me feel uneasy, aroused, and thrilled…and in its own unique way. All that is the formula for a great, classic horror movie. I can’t wait to see what Ti West comes up with for the sequel/prequel.
