A Masteprice by Sydney Lumet, a film that already begins with that feeling that things can go wrong, Hoffman's acting and the rest of the cast incredibly true and authentic, Lumet's direction in linking the points of view of the main characters is sensational with those few seconds where the scenes alternate in a fraction of a second, a bad story that drags you along all the time until a superlative ending for one of the best films I've ever seen in this new century, a film to see again for the wonder of images and everything else, excellent film!!!!!
This is ther rare movie that I seemed to like a little less after I had time to digest it. Don't get me wrong - it was still a very good movie and I enjoyed both the story and the performances. I think what threw me off a little was that the story was told in varying sequences. The movie starts in the middle of the story and then shows how you got there and then jumped back to real-time. The viewer is always conscious of where he is in the story but the whole time I had the feeling that the sequence came into play somehow (as it did in movies like Memento). However, it did not.
There are some.... memorable... scenes.
But the devil learns quickly. Marisa Tomei gives the C's.
This is apperently Sidney Lumet's last film and it is masterfully directed. It's a pretty good film overall with some great performances, but the direction is especially well done. Good swan song for Lumet.
Pretty good movie - odd title. The description from Trakt is spot on. Enjoyed it enough to give it 8.5/10
Bonus feature: Marisa Tomei topless for a few seconds
Phenomenal plot and acting. Well done, loved it.
Good Movie. Especially savored that ending!!!
An absolute masterclass from Lumet, squeezing every last drop of talent from a stellar cast. The handling of the time jumps is outstanding as are the reveals therein. Solid.
