Kamal, a young Iraqi man entering Europe on foot through the border between Turkey and Bulgaria, is captured by Bulgarian border police but escapes, finding himself to search for a way out in a seemingly interminable forest, an underworld where rules and laws don’t exist, where he is wounded and chased by Bulgarian migrant hunters. [SEFF'21] Closer to a thriller than to a social approach to immigration problems, the camera transmits the anguish and extreme fatigue of the protagonist clinging to him, in an excellent display of emotional claustrophobia. But it really offers a somewhat simplistic vision of a hostile Europe, especially coming from an Italian director and a British actor, inheritors of that immigration.
