Ah, homeland from whence we all came and where we will never return. Beautiful, tragic, and true.

Epic melodrama totally unlike the other Italian movies I've been watching of the era. There's a groundedness to it that feels modern, and the performances throughout are convincing and feel lived in. The brutality in the final act is quite shocking and I'm not sure how I felt about it, but the pain in Simone's arc was well-earned. Nino Rota's score was beautiful.
