From start to finish I was scared
That's how horror should be in my eyes. VERY unsettling, unpredictable and strange. I loved it a lot. Not comparable to all the generic american horror movies. This is on a whole other level. I didn't think it was too long at all. I was entertained the whole time and I can't tell that for most american horrors. Great stuff!
I can see this becoming a classic. It has that rare quality of becoming more interesting the more you think about it.
I'm a little conflicted about the film. As a big found footage horror fan I can't help but be more critical of certain things, and on Incantation I have to say where do all these cameras come from? Who made the video, and how was it distributed? I've often wondered how this specific camera angle came to be. So I don't know how good I think this film is as an FF. BUT the story is so heartbreaking, I didn't expect it. Wonderfully staged and told. There is so much to discover between the lines, and I was about to cry. And that's with a horror movie. I really liked this mix of emotions. Why don't more movies do that? Or do I just have to keep discovering the genre? Since the whole film moved me a lot more than I expected and the way the story is told just stuck in my head, I give it an extra point. So-so as FF Horror, but almost phenomenal as a folk horror drama.
This movie is actually kinda dope, it's not typical scary movie, cos it combines the relationship between mom and daughter, and Blair Witch type fake documentary. Especially the ending which the whole things turn out to be
an attempt to save her daughter and she lie to the audience from the very beginning and transfer and distribute the curse towards the audience
, and the black and white spell which you still can see that after you close your eyes, that was dope!
Anyone said that it is a mess, maybe you should pay more attention to the movie. But of course it can be greater, but it is already a solid horror movie.
There're some interesting comments on Douban that explained a lot of plots that make no sense. If those comments are right, this film is at another level. Highly recommend reading them on Douban if you understand Chinese. One of them was basically saying that Li Ronan (李若男) was actually not even trying to help Dodo (朵朵), but to help the cult thrive, and there're evidence in the film.

Very scary, left within 15 mins. Dog got scared too, had nightmares
Like hanging out with a liar: you spend so much energy questioning their story that you forget to listen to it.
This is a normal movie about a curse, but because it claims to be found footage, I spent the entire film questioning the source of the bajillion camera angles so I didn't have time to be scared.
It was pretty good I thought. Had some pretty scary parts.
