The Retirement Plan

When Ashley and her young daughter Sarah get caught up in a criminal enterprise that puts their lives at risk, she turns to the only person who can help: her estranged father Matt, currently living the life of a retired beach bum in the Cayman Islands. Their reunion is fleeting as they are soon tracked down on the island by crime boss Donnie and his lieutenant Bobo. As Ashley, Sarah, and Matt become entangled in an increasingly dangerous web, Ashley quickly learns her father had a secret past that she knew nothing about and that there is more to her father than meets the eye.

I didn't like the abrupt ending, he just left his daughter and grandkid, that guy is shady using the drive to help. Himself. Even something in the middle of the credits. It could have been 24 hours later the daughter and granddaughter knock on his door, and they have a little talking scene then he promises to stay in touch and they'll visit him. Something simple to give the movie closure.

Quite the apropos title, which reminded me a lot of "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent", with lead Nick Cage, now far removed from his Ghost Rider, and National Treasure days, showing, as Rocky Balboa one opined, "he's still got a little something left in the tank". And indeed he does, as, a former Guvment' assassin with a disdain for authority, an estranged daughter, and a precocious Granddaughter, finds himself having to put a plan together to "save the cheerleader, save the world", er, (sorry), off the myriad of inept baddies sent by the stumbling, bumbling cartel diversity hire Donny played by the never menacing Jackie Earle Haley, and his female "boss", unironically named Hector, cuz, it's a scarier name than Griselda I guess, but, then, I digress.

Ron Perlman does a yeoman's job with what he is given as an enforcer with a gold plated heart as well as a soft spot for Othello and cute kids, at least, until they Cobra Kai him in the dangly bits, then all bets are off. Ernie Hudson continues on his Winston Zeddemore track, an affable sidekick, who, as one of the few flies amongst a plethora of buttermilk happily survives the third act, although battered and leaking slightly. Ashley Green, IMO REALLY needs make an appointment with Doctor Dubrow and company, because, each time she has a low angle close up, I find myself cringing at what appears to be some shoddy reconstruction in the nasal region. But, I could be wrong. If so, forgive me, and, make that appointment anyway. Lynn Whitfield and Joel David Moore play cat and mouse as more Guvment types, who, seem to be double dealing from the bottom of the deck, until one of them isn't, but they still come off as sleezy, especially wannabe Gubernatorial candidate Christopher, played with slippery ease by Rick Fox.

All in all, not a bad flick by any means, hitting all the right beats to scratch that reoccurring Nic Cage itch you may be experiencing.

This is simply a fun Nic Cage movie.I believe this movie firmly places him in the Grandpa Action genre now - lol.

Sit back - relax - and enjoy!

Far from a perfect movie. Lots of stuff is absurd and doesn't make sense. Yet I still found some charm in it. It's one of those movies if you can laugh about the stupid things, the rest shines at least a bit.

Every time a characters name flashed on the screen with a whip crack sound, my friends and I laughed. It's hard to tell if this was intentionally bad or just someone really thinking it would be cool and isn't, but we laughed. If you're looking for something high brow, this isn't it.

Hey, just because it's 6/10 doesn't mean it's not fun!

JFC, everybody got so old! I think I have to stop holding out hope for Ron Perlman doing another Hell Boy!

Somebody please tell me, why the bad acting? Is it the director? These are all actors I've seen do better before -- iconic character actors... they just seemed to be having too good a time here.

I still enjoyed it!

It's ok to be a predictable movie, but to have such a poor poor ending, ruins the whole movie
