Not bad if you are not expected to follow the exact route of the Bible
The special effects are not bad, and we do not mind. Great. I think.

For those who are unaware of the source material, the movie is based on a Comic Book story that was built over a poem that Aronofsky did in school when he was a child, so no, not a biblical story adaptation, as you may think. It's a fantasy comic book story that is not even set in Earth, so yeah, they use what it looks like jeans, yes they have giant rock angels, and yes it is different from the bible version. Just please do some research before saying stupid things about a movie. For a fictional fantasy story, comic book-based with an argument built over a child's poem, with sci-fi tones and discussions about family and paternal issues, Aronofsky delivers a well made movie, with great visuals, some good acting, a good soundtrack and a plot that if you are aware of its origins, is pretty decent and in some ways original. A good directorial movie that he always wanted to do.

I'm sure many people know the story of Noah's Ark. Well, the gist of it at least. All of that? Throw it off the boat. The story is dramatic of course, but frighteningly realistic with its messages. Darren Aronofsky takes on some deep topics, as usual, but maybe even too many and still not enough. The visuals are extraordinary, and the acting is great. They submerge you into a fantasy of horror and despair by using a well-known religious story. The casting could have been better but in general, it's bearable. I recommend every Aronofsky film because you come out learning so much with no recollection on why or how.

It's unintentionally hilarious sometimes (throwing firecrackers into boats, trampling random chicks, Emma Watson screwing her boyfriend instead of helping save his brother, anything that Anthony Hopkins does, etc.)but it is a solid movie even with those parts. It succeeds in having that "Big" feel to it and the time lapse sequences are excellent.
