I'm watching this for the second time in 2023. Twenty years after my first viewing. I think the movie has held up well as an action film. The sets and CGI look dated, of course. This movie was made two decades ago. Having said that, that didn't stop me from enjoying this movie.
Half way in, I remembered that Sean Connery passed away in 2020, which made me feel sad. 😢
I can't speak to the comic, but this is still a very entertaining movie.
Enjoyed it.
'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' does nothing all that extraordinary but produces a fun time nevertheless. Great cast, fast paced plot and entertaining action. The ending slightly underwhelms, but I still found myself satisfied with it. The special effects are good, it's only "The Nautilus" that looks less than so.
Sean Connery does carry the film as Quatermain, he's terrific throughout - really enjoyed the way his character carries himself. I liked Tony Curran's Skinner too. I actually rate all the characters to be honest, with Jason Flemyng (Jekyll/Hyde) and Stuart Townsend (Gray) being my picks of the rest.
Merits a watch, even if Connery didn't remember it all that fondly.
I admit if critics didn’t like something. I have let that ruin movies for me. I gave this a 6 for instance when I found it fun. More fun than Van Helsing that Roger Ebert gave *** and this *.
Sure it’s forced to throw all these people together otherwise I just don’t see where the movie is all that bad.
A fun and entertaining action flick with some nice ideas, extraordinary characters and fast pacing plot but that's all...
kinda like Wild Wild West by Will Smith
A high concept mess of a b-movie homage to early 20th century serial adventures; The Avengers of pulp serial literary characters that doesn't work nearly as well as the Marvel team-up a decade later, but if you're in for pure "shut your brain off" dumb fun, this won't disappoint.
Remarkably charming and visually original in its own unique way. I really liked the kinda dumb fun that it was to watch and experience. It's not perfect by any means and I noticed a few inconsistent things that may be plot holes, but it's fun while it's on screen and I appreciate it for that.
Feels flawed, but it'll hold your attention even if you're thinking "That's not right!"
Almost worth watching just for Sean Connery's off-and-on Scottish accent. The effects are a bit dated, but it *is* almost 13 years old… and I've seen worse in blockbuster films from last year.
The film and special effects have aged a bit, but luckily Connery is still watchable. :)
