I would really like to go back to the year I watched this movie. I don't know how many times I watched it on TV. I still remember the scenes. It was a great production that came out back then. Definitely watch it, maybe it won't grab your attention because it's a very old production, but if you're going to evaluate it, evaluate it according to the year it was released. I added it to my favorites. Thanks for your efforts.
A really good rendition of the multiple times made story about a group of explorers find the center of the Earth where there is a hidden world. The casting is excellent in Josh Hutchinson and Brendan Fraser. The plot development is superior, as the lead up is short and sweet which allows for the audience to spend most of its enjoyment in the midst of the adventure. The filming could have been better showing more the wonders of the discovery, but all in all it was humorous, fun and thrilling.
A charming family movie. Always been a fan of Brendan Fraser.
This is still a good watch. Even in 2023.
I think it’s unfair to judge a movie produced in 2008 by the quality of it’s CGI. This was the pre-HD era.
BTW - They made a sequel to this a couple of years later. It’s has the kid from this one, The Rock and Venessa Hudgens. You’re welcome 😉.
Okay, it's a bit juvenile and silly but still a fun watch, especially if you have young children watching it with you. The T-rex was almost laughable by today's standards but it did add another fun/scary (for children) element. I could sit here and pick it apart on an academic level but hey...it's not meant to be Oscar-worthy drama material: it's just a fun story, and in that it definitely succeeds.
What an ugly looking movie! It's all watchable, mind you.
Even for 2008, the special effects of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' are quite bad, they are more reminiscent of early 00s video game graphics. That whole initial sequence looks awful, admittedly the effects aren't actually as bad as that opening suggests but still looks unbefitting of a flick with a reported $60m budget!
What saves this film is that the adventure plot itself is solid and the cast do admirable jobs. Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briem are a trio that made it work for me. I haven't got much more to say about this one, it is visually woeful but as a picture overall it didn't drag or anything for me personally so I narrowly view it positively.
Now to see what the sequel had to offer!
I don't know why everyone thinks it is so incredibly terrible.
Okay, it's not super awesome, but it is not awful either.
It's a nice adventure familyfilm.
Cheesy, fun, lighthearted, colorful. My stuff.
