Beverly Hills Cop

Fast-talking, quick-thinking Detroit street cop Axel Foley has bent more than a few rules and regs in his time, but when his best friend is murdered, he heads to sunny Beverly Hills to work the case like only he can.

This movie holds up. It's a stone cold classic. That said, there are two things that really jump out at me this time around:
First off, Axel had a short window of time off and chose that time to drive that junker of his across the country. That's a two day drive! Now there is an idea for a prequel. Axel's two day cross country road trip.
Secondly...maybe espresso and the idea of what "coffee beans" are was a new concept at the time but the whole "lets disguise drugs in the coffee" thing had to be explained THREE TIMES. This is what makes him a brilliant detective? Was coffee that new of a novelty in 1984 that audiences needed it spelled out so many times?
Anyway, still love this movie. Still perfect.
A rare achievement in how it successfully combines humor and action into one piece. My favorite Eddie Murphy movie.
Axel is so coool hahaha :) love this movie! Eddie was at his stand-up comedy peak when he transitioned to films !
One of the greatest action comedies ever made. An absolutely fabulous movie.
It's a great movie, it's what you expect from Eddie the character itself I liked and the others are good....
But I feel that a little more story would be nice....
Jenny's kidnapping was not the typical one where they show how they torture her and so on, it's not bad but they could have gone that way, the drug scenes and the shooting were good but I would have appreciated more...
Always fondly remember this. Great music and Murphy being hilarious. On re-watch (7 years after my last, thanks scrobbling!) it struck me that it's actually a pretty good story. I love how they display Foley's competence and investigative skills. Reminded me a lot of Sean Spencer from Psych!
A classic of cop comedy movie. A brilliant Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley takes the genre to a new level.
The Lethal Weapon franchise kinda stole the whole eighties cop comedy thunder from this -- and fairly so, you can't get much better than a Shane Black-penned buddy cop movie -- but this really was the granddaddy of the violently-vulgar cop comedy genre. Looking back after 40 years (ugh!) it didn't really get any better than this!
Did Jonathan Banks just spring into existence as a 50-year-old man? He was in his late 30s in this, but somehow looked 50 just like he did in 48 Hours.
