Galaxy Quest

For four years, the courageous crew of the NSEA protector - "Commander Peter Quincy Taggart", "Lt. Tawny Madison and "Dr.Lazarus" - set off on a thrilling and often dangerous mission in space...and then their series was cancelled! Now, twenty years later, aliens under attack have mistaken the Galaxy Quest television transmissions for "historical documents" and beam up the crew of has-been actors to save the universe. With no script, no director and no clue, the actors must turn in the performances of their lives.

The best Star Trek movie of all time; that's how you do it JJ Abrams.

Never give up. Never surrender.

One of my absolute favorite movies. Being a Star Trek fan, it lets me laugh at/with Star Trek without belittling it at all. Every actor is spot-on. The whole movie just gets everything right.

By Grabthar's Hammer, what a movie! One of the best films of the last 30 years and still holds up today. The parody element is spot on without being overindulgent and every joke hits perfectly. If you've not seen this film already, then remedy that immediately!

A movie that works on all levels. The story, acting and special effects are all top notch. This is as close to a perfect film as you can make. A classic for any fan of film.

Simply epic. It works as a sci-fi adventure tale, a brilliant comedy (that doesn't rely on bathroom jokes or "humorous" stereotypes) and as a love letter to sci-fi fans. It's a genuine treat and holds up to repeated viewings even nearly 20 years after it was released.

This movie is Trekkie gold! Such an awesome cast . Brings to life the spirit of Star Trek. If you liked this parody, and haven’t come across it already, I would recommend watching The Orville.

On first sight, this is a SciFi movie, but on a second look it turns out to be a movie about SciFi fandom too. It's very entertaining to watch stars of a SciFi show, that aired decades a go, with their fading fame, and it's hard not to think of Star Trek TOS and William Shattner and Nichelle Nichols, who basically made careers out of this. These people (the characters as well as the real ones) now basically live of the fandom, and they may even look down on it and the fans.

This is something the movie avoids. Sure, they poke it a bit and have some fun with it, but comes across as very goodhearted, because in the end, the fans save the day. Together with the obvious stabs at the sometimes crappy and plot-device heavy SciFi show writing (chompers, anyone?), it makes this a very entertaining movie for SciFi fans.

I'm only curious how much different the R-rated version would have been, and if it will ever see the light of day. In the mean time, we will have to make do with what's there and enjoy the little hints of it, like Sigourney Weaver clearly not saying "screw that" when faced with the chompers.
