Species

In 1993, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Project receives a transmission detailing an alien DNA structure, along with instructions on how to splice it with human DNA. The result is Sil, a sensual but deadly creature who can change from a beautiful woman to an armour-plated killing machine in the blink of an eye.

I don’t understand these aging complaints. For me Natasha’s boobs haven’t aged a bit.

Yup...I went and bought the box with all 4 of the Species films from 88 Films, and I'm not sure if that was a good thing.

The first one, which I actually know I sort of like (can't remember anything of the second, and never seen the last two), has a few things going for it. A good cast, an interesting premise, and a sometimes nude Natasha Henstridge. The execution, however, is a bit lacking. It has also got a few pacing problems, but it gets better towards the end. I do remember enjoying this back in the 90s, and I had a good time now as well. How much of that was nostalgia I don't know, but I suspect it might be a lot...

It's not aged to well at all and I remember it being better from years and years ago. That being said I was entertained and i did not feel like it over stayed It's welcome. Yes it's a very simple if not weak story and it's full of huge plot holes but hey I ain't watching this for the plot. I'm in this for one thing and one thing only..... Natasha, Hella Yea.
nuff said.

A decent SciFi Horror movie that is saved from mediocrity by the lovely Natasha Henstridge and the excellent cast. Unfortunately it is less good as it could have been with such cast. For fans of the genre.

Haven't watched this in a long long time. Still holds up decently. I forgot enough of it I still found it very entertaining. And the cast, SO 90s. Gotta love it. I'll watch the rest soon.

Even though “Species” gets off to a relatively promising start, it soon turns out that it's just an exploitation B-movie. The whole beginning in a research facility and the subsequent escape of the alien-human hybrid Sil has some momentum.

At some point, however, the movie starts to spin in circles: Sil (Natasha Henstridge) is looking for a mate to reproduce with and regularly gets rid of her clothes, only to be interrupted or change her mind at the last moment. She is hunted by a team of experts who are played by well-known actors, but none of whom are really convincing.

Overall, “Species” is certainly solid entertainment, and some of the practical effects are particularly satisfying. But it's not enough for more than mediocrity. The characters are too flat and the story too thin for that. And the film should have been a few minutes shorter.

Doesn't stand the test of time in my opinion. Perfect example of what I can't stand about 90's movies from the cheap sound effects to the bad acting. Pass.

Featuring Natasha Henstridge in her breakout role, Species is an interesting B-grade horror film. The story follows a genetics lab that puts together a task force in order to hunt down an escaped experiment that combined human and alien DNA. Co-starring Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker, and Michelle Williams, most of the actors seem miscast and give rather weak performances; except for Henstridge whose limitations work to her favor in this role. However, the script is poorly written and isn’t able to maintain much suspense. Yet despite its problems, Species still delivers some thrills and a few scares.
