one of my most re-watched movies. And for anyone wondering, the ending is supposed to be Skull Island.
Finally got around to seeing this one albeit 20 years after it's release. Holy crap I'm sorry I missed it. Really, really enjoyed it. Not perfect but a solid monster flick.
What a blast this film was! Over the top action, dialogue, and a fairly diverse cast for 1998. The CGI is awful by todays standards, but it feels more like a 90s video game cut scene. Id suggest watching this with others, as everyone will enjoy sharing their comments and jokes every 30 seconds. By no means is this a "good" film, but its trash art at the highest level.
Cheesy movie that doesn't take itself to seriously. Had the privilege of renting it from Blockbuster in the 90's. Like a fine wine its aged gracefully
More entertaining than you might expect. Fun monster film with nice portions of violence, some "before they were stars" appearances, and great pacing. The the next movie this director would make was the Brendan Fraser "The Mummy" and you can see the bones of that film here. A good time!
A fun sci-fi/action romp that never takes itself seriously. I’ve watched it several times over the years and it always entertains.
> "I don't mean to sound like a pussy, but this shit is startin' to freak me out, man!"
If you are looking for a fun and gross creature feature, look no further. I can tell that a lot of work went into the creature effects, prosthetics and set so it makes me sad that more people didn't watch it. Also the characters are just fun to watch as they scramble for their lives.
Looking at it again, some of the CGI has aged rather poorly, but that aside, is a pretty damn entertaining Action/Horror flick. One of Sommers best. Especially loved how it sets up these characters for more adventures. It's too bad the movie wasn't successful enough.
There are good movies and there are bad movies. And there's the movie that's so bad it's good.
This movie is one of them. The story is bad (full of holes) with a weak cast, but with an average production and also reasonable direction. What makes this movie good? Adversities are funny and management manages to distract us from these problems. Because of this, this film cannot be recommended, but it is worth watching at a gathering of friends. I really liked the nonsense, the problem is that the film is too long for its premise and loses its strength throughout the film, culminating in a weak ending. I believe this film could have been rethought and enhanced in its stupidity - focusing on stereotyping, sexualization and excessive violence.
I saw this in the theater when it was originally released. It was a train wreck, but very entertaining because of audience participation, yelling at the characters to NOT go that way, then laughing and cheering when they don't listen and die. The film's special effects were decently done considering the budget, but still campy as heck.
I still enjoyed it and I have inflicted this film on my friends a few times to annoy them, so I get added value from that as well.
