Watched the modern show before watching this, but this is still amazing for 2003 standards (and even better).

Time to give the Devil his due. Daredevil brings Marvel’s comic to life in a fun and exciting action film. The story follows blind lawyer Matt Murdock who prowls the streets of Hell’s Kitchen at night as the masked vigilante Daredevil, fighting to rid the streets of New York from the influences of the mysterious crime boss known as Kingpin. Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, and Michael Clarke Duncan led the cast, make for a good ensemble, and give strong performances; especial Farrell, whose charisma nearly steals the film. Also, the tone has a nice balance of comedic and dramatic elements; using bits of humor to release tension. Unfortunately though, the CGI is underwhelming and ends up hurting the action scenes. However, the music is exceptionally well used and is able to add a lot of energy and momentum to the film. Immensely entertaining, Daredevil is a thrilling adventure.

Some-what fun but goofy. I always enjoyed it. The Director’s Cut is superior though. Since there’s more scenes of Matt actually defending someone in court.
The kick-ass show Netflix made a huge mistake canceling just to piss off Disney. Is of course far superior than this movie.

The directors cut is better. Though it is the playground fight that needed to be cut out, not the sex scene. The film also could have used Matt trained by Stick. Instead of him training himself to fight as a kid.
Though before all the hate got to me, I enjoyed this movie a lot. The Netflix show is far superior though and Netflix sucks for canceling it just to take a shot at Disney.
Ben Affleck I really don’t think did a laughable awful job like he is treated. Matt Damon really did him no favor by turning down the role and suggesting Affleck. Especially since Damon didn’t like the script or the director choice but suggested Affleck anyway.

Not great but not terrible either. Better than the Netflix version anyway.

Watched the Director’s Cut. Surprisingly solid! Not great, but a mostly faithful adaption of the comic. The fight scenes are decent, though some CGI has not held up. And yes, the soundtrack is hilarious but that’s part of the charm. Affleck is a pretty good Daredevil, capturing his charm and guilt along with the rage. Favreau is in his wheelhouse as Froggy. And the villains are great. I wanted more MCD as Kingpin- the man oozed charisma and presence. And Farrell is having a blast as Bullseye, and it’s infectious.

Elektra is the weak link. Gardner is miscast, in both look and feeling. She lacks Elektra’s edge and competence. A fair deal of that can be laid at the script’s feet. Emphasis is placed on her as a daughter and a love interest to the point her martial skill is jarring, not that she has much. She’s played as a chump by Bullseye, especially when she tries to catch a tossed sai for… her pride? This Elektra does not have the sauce, and I’m surprised she for a spinoff, but not that it failed.

But when it’s away from her, this captures the tone of the comic pretty well. Joey Pants is a great Ulrich, and it balances court and journalism storylines with the heroics pretty decently. It’s far from an all timer, but the director’s cut shows that there’s some value there

Personally, I think Affleck did not get the credit he desired for this movie. While it may not match up to today's superhero movies, I think he did a decent job. Although, I wasn't "head over heels" for Jennifer Garner as Electra. I was not feeling he character at all. They just wanted an actress with a hot bod, obviously performing as a superhero wasn't working for her. The amateurism was quite obvious!

My comment relates to the Director's Cut which is very much a different movie than the Theatrical Cut. But even this version doesn't make it a great movie. The story is actually not bad but let's address the elephant in the room - casting.
Ben Affleck was somewhat in the upper echelon of Hollywood around the time but he does not carry this charachter. While his Matt Murdock is somewhat OK his Daredevil is plain and simply bad. His attempt at making him darker by speaking in a deep voice is futile. And there isn't much more. He just isn't convincing. But the miscastings didn't stop with him.
Jennifer Garner - I loved her in _Alias_ and was a big fan of her around that time. Playing Sydney Bristow should have given her some edge in the action department but she seems to be struggling here as Elektra. And you can't help but think it was Afleck who got her the job (althought their relationship began later). Again, not a convincing portrayal. And speaking of romance - I know it's part of the Daredevil story but I don't think it was a good idea to incorporate it in the first movie. In any case it was done in an awful way.
Colin Farrell - here we have the case of a hero just being as good as your villain. And how good can your hero be when your villain is simply ridicolous? Farrell overplayed the part. Maybe this is how Bullseye is in the comics, I don't know. But for a casual viewer this villain becomes a joke. The only two parts I liked are Favreau, who is funny no matter what he does, and Clarke Duncan who is an imposing figure.
So your three main characters are bad, there isn't a story in the world that can save this. Plus I felt no emotional attachment. I didn't feel Matt's pain, his struggles. When Elektra was killed, which should be a key scene, it left me cold.
On top of all of that the movie didn't age well. In parts it looks older than it actually is. The curse of early CGI.
This is one case where I am completely on board with a 55 % rating for the movie. I give it 6 but at least 1 or 2 points are for effort.

After watching the director's cut I thought this was much better than it's reputation. It is very silly and feels so 2000s. There was some weird editing and too many crash zooms. Ben Affleck is miscast but Colin Farrell is having a lot of fun. Michael Clarke Duncan is great.
