It was so good i love it
I was 29 minutes in when i got the feeling of wanting to rewatch it already and i knew that im gonna rate it no less than a 10.
In movies like "Ballerina" or "Terminal" you won't get a "character development" as you know it. And you don't actually need it. But instead of that you'll get to understand character through their background.
And they did it perfectly in this movie. I don't need to see her past as a bodyguard or whatever she did for work. Because Okju herself never cared about it. She said that herself. The only thing she cared about was her friend. The only person in her life who gave her some kind of happiness. Through flashbacks you understand that Okju was able to see beauty of this world only through Minhees eyes. And that what matters the most.
And seeing her killing all those men was a really great experience. Because after hearing Okju saying "i owe her that" you understand that she is doing that because she believes that its only fair. Because Minhee was a light in her life. And Okju fulfilled her last request for that. As a gratitude.
Separate appreciation deserves light and camera work as well. I couldn't make myself look away. Each shot was a masterpiece itself.
Movie pace was perfect and gave you time to rest from fight, get deeper into the character and plot, and prepare to the next fight.
And last but not least. Actress who played Okju did amazing. All the emotions, all the different parts of personality. She showed it perfectly.
Such a great movie that deserves so much more attention than it got.
visuals and fight scenes 🔥🔥🔥🔥
they obviously were more than friends
This movie was fun. I love it when females get to be bad asses.
It's a really good action revenge story, it is also has touching themes on female relationships and taking back power. Well rounded movie, the most I can say is that it lacked a bit of layers, but the ending scene was beautiful.
This movie did some things pretty well: the music choice is similar to the Netflix K-drama My Name (2021) or CW shows (specifically Kung Fu (2021)), it’s pop with a mix of classical music, CW shows tend to overuse Pop but this movie did it well; camera movement in action scenes is pretty interesting, they use a lot of tilted angles and follow characters closely; the lighting is dark overall with a few strong colors; the main character actually looks like a badass but is still very likable.
I did have some issues with this movie however, the plot is pretty generic though it’s a minor issue for me, the action scenes are hard to keep track of because there’s too many fast cuts, the footage is sped-up sometimes to give the feeling that it’s fast, it’s somewhat common in action scenes but they even did it for a motorcycle shot which felt unnecessary, and it was too fast which made it obvious.
❤ x7
It's an OK revenge action movie. I loved the opening scene where our heroine shows her I-don't-give-a-f*@k-attitude. But alas, we don't really get to see that again.
How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
Beautiful cinematography and great lighting reallly elevate this movie. The fight scenes are also pretty great. The highlight being the one at the hotel. I thought the pacing was a little slow and maybe one too many flashbacks, but for a 90 minute movie this is fun and worth a watch.
It was okay. They didn't develop the protagonist at all so the audience can't relate to her. It was more focused on her ballerina friend. The person in this comments section saying Korean films have lost sight of their roots because they're making these with Netflix in mind doesn't seem as accustomed to Korean films as they think they are. This is a distinctly Korean action thriller. The soundtrack wasn't very focused or well done. But other than that, it's pretty standard stuff. An okay time waster, pretty to look at, not as consistent from start to finish in terms of world building, and odd plot holes but I had fun nonetheless.
