I have read a fair bit of literature on the actual crimes and I found the movie an interesting study on the Bling Ring's personalities. If you look into the crimes, personalities and lives of these subjects, you'll see that quite a lot of what played out was true. Including the outrageous characterisations of each individual.

Yes, the "plot" and characters seemed thin and little explanation was given. However if you know the backstory, you would understand that there was little reason why they actually committed these offences. They were bored with their lives, had a history of rebellious behavior and discovered just how easy it was to take what they want without getting caught. So they did it. Simple. Some kids take some coins out of their parent's loose change jar, for the Bling Ring, they just... upsized.

However taking it all with a grain of salt, I understand that the media and books I would have read would be biased towards the writer's point of view... like anything ever written. So without actually being with them during the crimes, one wouldn't actually know what really happened. I do however believe that the film was a good collaboration of information from the many articles and books published.

Being a Sofia Coppola film, glamour and fabulous lifestyle was a huge part of the film. This I think was misread by viewers as a misguided form of romanticising the harsh reality of what happened. I believe the film was constructed to show the audience how the Bling Ring thought the entire operation was glamorous and fame-worthy.

It would seem, the media fueled their wanton desire for the subjects to be part of the elite and pandered to their whims. The crimes independently were nothing of note to the average Joe... however the paparazzi and media jumped on the celebrity bandwagon and enabled the subjects to feel entitled and praised. And now I seem to be touching on the subjects from Nancy Sales' book... I digress.

In summary, I believe the movie was a well executed and constructed representation of what was reported to have happened (as per media and books). The style was chosen to help the audience understand the subjects' nativity and ignorance... and overwhelming desire to be part of the ëlite". Looking at the film for what it was, I enjoyed the ride.

When this movie first came out, I was all about it. I loved the cinematography and it’s aesthetic. Something about it really draws me in. Now many years later, I know who Sofia Coppola is and it really makes sense why I like this movie. Despite it being one of the objectively weaker A24 movies, it surely has a place in my heart and did a good job helping pave the way for A24.

Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend

I enjoyed this bigger-budget and well-acted remake, but as to the base plot I simply couldn't suspend my disbelief.
Estates that large are never so empty, even when the breadwinner homeowner is off-premises. There's always household staff about maintaining the aspects of the house that need maintenance whether Paris Hilton is using them or not. The fact that the house would still be staffed does
, though, explain why the alarms wouldn't be engaged and why the doors would be so accessible. I know this is based on a true story, but I think some details were left out or exaggerated for the sake of a compelling story as they do not match with realistic behavior.

The harbinger of the fall of a civilization - bored, entitled children entertaining themselves at the expense of others and gaining celebrity from a bored, wanna-be culture devoid of values, compassion, or boundaries. A sad narrative based on true incidents. I gave it a 7 (good) out of 10.

This was a pleasant surprise! I had some doubts before I choose to see this one today when I went to the cinema but after all it wasn't a bad choice.
Stylish film that gives a good portrait of the society that idolizes celebrities. All of the lust, expensive brands, lots of money, the parties, the star lifestyle! This also makes a reference of many parents that nowadays don't pay attention to what their sons are doing, they just don't care or pretend they don't care and don't see what they are doing. They are just too busy with their own lifes.
This should be seen also as a satire. Comparing this one with Spring Breakers, the two are about some kind of wild teenagers, in my oppinion The Bling Ring definitely wins!
The young actors gave a natural and good performance! The chemistry between all of them was great!
I didn't knew that this was based on true events.

this movie was fine -- watchable but not that deep; I know people who are v. similar to the main characters so I had some personal annoyance baggage dragging it down. however, it was all worth it to see dana from the l word :)

Boring and pretty shallow and im not complaining about the situation exposed, which i expected, just that you can tell a stupid story without being stupid.

The movie is too aesthetic for whats going on, seems that who made it preffered better to tell us how the paris hilton closet looked like over the fact that some stupid people where breaking into her house. Like i should be amused for how easy stealing can be.

It could have had a better ending. Good movie though.
